based in Philadelphia. "Singles who have a furry four-legged friend who goes to the dog run daily are sure to want to pray to St. Bernard to help them to connect with some other person who throws a slimy tennis ball or chew toy. It won't guarantee a match made in doggie heaven, but it can't hurt, either."

St. Drogo, patron of those who feel unattractive, and of coffeehouses
"If you feel unattractive or you just want the coffee on the first date to be tasty and things to be pleasant at the coffee shop, St. Drogo is the saint you want," says John Hedtke, of Eugene, OR.

St. Dwynwen, patron saint of lovers
"When I was a hormone-happy teen, I discovered sex in the religious book store at my school," confesses Jina Bacarr, an erotic-romance author based in Huntington Beach, CA. "OK, so it wasn't sex, but to a curious 13-year-old under the thumb of the Sisters of Mercy, it was the next best thing: Lives of the Saints. A maroon leather-bound book with classic color illustrations of beautiful, tortured virgins and half-naked men. But when my heart was broken by a boy, it was St. Dwynwen, the patron saint of lovers, who got me through it. Her spunk, determination and generosity empowered me as no other saint had. She rocks!"

St. Jude, patron of hopeless cases
"He is my favorite symbol for singles because it represents having faith in love," says Paulette Kouffman Sherman, author of Dating from the Inside Out: How to Use the Law of Attraction in Matters of the Heart. "Singles often lose hope that they will ever find love, especially when they experience the rejection and loneliness that is sometimes part of dating. It is so important for them to know that they are not hopeless, that they are worthy of love and to continue to believe in it.
