I’ve been told I possess a happy humor; a warm smile; good intuition; a flair for baking cakes; a sharp wit; and an atypical fondness for broccoli. It’s possible these things are true; the bit about the broccoli is definitely true.
Other definite truths:
I’m an east coast native out west. Despite living in the Bay Area for nearly a decade, I still marvel at the absence of bone-chilling winter and at the presence of so much traffic. I’m enchanted by the scent of jasmine and eucalyptus in the nighttime air, and I miss warm summer evenings and thunderstorms.
I have a mostly unused BFA; a former life as an advertising copywriter; and a current career as a clinical psychologist. I also write. This means much of my workday is spent in empathic and creative endeavors—the rest is paperwork.
In my free time I enjoy several of the standard hobbies: reading, writing, running, hiking, cooking, and the occasional game of tennis. With the exception of sports, I do not watch reality television.
A few of my favorite things:
Sunrise with a cup of coffee, a view of the city, and time to write.
Creative projects and weekend getaways.
My favorite vacation was a bike tour of Tuscany—the hills, the views, the food!
I prefer dogs to cats, and cats to pet iguanas. I wish I had a dog again.
Brunch. Such a happy meal.
My favorite movie of 2012 was 'Beasts of the Southern Wild.'
Sunset, a view of the city, and time with someone special.
My favorite recently-read novel is 'Stones from the River' by Ursula Hegi. Heartrending, but so beautiful.
This snippet from Whitman’s 'The Open Road,'
“Have the past struggles succeeded?
What has succeeded? yourself? your nation? Nature?
Now understand me well—it is provided in the essence of things
That from any fruition of success, no matter what, shall come forth something to make a greater struggle necessary.”
So... What has succeeded for you? What's provided in your essence of things? I'm curious!
