ABOUT HIM & WHO HE'S LOOKING FOR

Hi! I'm Tony and this is my profile; thanks for stopping by. Well, here goes nothing:

Here we are, on the interblag reaching out to make a connection in hopes of meeting someone who will take our breath away, cause a flutter in one's heartbeat, or that strange uplifting sensation that can't be really described or located. Seems as if everyone has their work cut out for themselves here to present oneself as such or to actually find that person.

While it's not how I usually think to narrow my options by listing a specific criteria, because it's one way to miss out on all sorts opportunities wearing an artificially imposed blinder, I figure that it's somewhat helpful to provide some idea of what I look for in someone else. This is neither an exhaustive list nor a list of requirements; if anything they are just random musings and daydreams that come to the fore when on a long road trip across the interstates of America or when spacing out on a distance run trying to ignore Messr Knee's complaining.

(Well, one heckuva windup, right?)

Maybe she has a smile that lights up the room; or she has that restless nature that calls out for adventures, whether a visit to Les Tulleries, step on the shores of Lac Assal, pound cheap soju at outdoor food stalls in Busan, or [choose your adventure]; she has one passion or three, whether painting, running, yoga, collecting whimsical bric-a-brac, perusing Golden Age Marvel titles, it doesn't matter so long as there's one; empathy is probably a good thing too. Maybe someone who doesn't mind holding hands. Or forcing me to follow through the dance routine plaques you find on the sidewalks in a neighborhood in Seattle; I do somewhat remember how to foxtrot. Somewhat.

As for me...--a list? Why not? Who really is paying attention at this juncture? No really, because apparently I'm too far, too old, not old enough, not ambitious enough, not tall enough, not this or that enough...but if you are willing to overlook that, here's just a short list about me:
- As hard as I try during Vinyasa yoga practice, I haven't managed to stretch my spine sufficiently to shatter the 5'8" barrier. Maybe the 5'9" barrier, but highly unlikely to break the planet's gravity well long enough to reach 5'10.
- The Wire over anything else that's come out since.
- Bow ties over Double Windsor power ties.
- Sriracha makes everything better--topped only by spicy miso paste (Busan red tent edition).
- Can only speak Japanese when hammered...meaning this only happens in Japan.
- Happiest playing in/on the water on a surfboard or a SUP.
- Runs, but not necessarily looking for a running partner, that is unless you seek comedy mixed with fitness; i.e., me curling up into a ball begging for it all to end eight or so miles in.
- Allergic to shrimp, racists, homophobes, lobster, misogynists, myopic misanthropes, crustaceans, "dudebros", and the usual self stroking potpourri seen in trendy bars.

Basketball, Running, Soccer, Swimming, Yoga, Other types of exercise

Pet Essay:

As a kid, wanted a pet T-rex; then a polar bear--and because of extinction and safety regulations, can't have both...so Plan B: opting for a dog. Or in the alternative, if global warming continues its pace, there's still hope for a theropod pet.

Political views:
Liberal
Sign:
I don't believe in astrology
College:
University of Wisconsin–Madison, Madison, WI
For fun:

Non sequiturs; confusing kids talking about swag by tossing old Big Pun lines at them; visiting my fave shochu soaked izakaya; recording the word-of-the-day off the OED website; scrawling in Moleskines; playing "find the spam b0t on match."

Favorite hot spots:

When the swell is pumping in the South End, Tokyo, Yokohama, Shonan (Seedless, Shichirigahama), Chiba (Hebara), Hong Kong, San Diego, Bimbo's in Melbourne OZ, Tacos el Gordo in Nat'l City, on my Naish SUP (party of one)...

Favorite things:

Surfing, running, pecan pie, reading, good films, good beer, unfiltered diesel fuel, the smell of an old book, mint Oreos, ramen in Hayama, good tunes, cookies and cream ice cream, putting off second careers.

Likely your profile. On pulp--Native Son and a Chanellos pizza box. Oh yeah, my grad school's annual shameless begging mailings.

Homo sapiens sapiens. Maybe with a bit of Neanderthal since apparently our ancestors got busy in the Near East with the Neanderthals there. Speaking of which, Neanderthals were actually pretty sophisticated; so those commercials? Slanderous libel.

The Hubble Ultra Deep Field. Well, you can toss in the Kepler mission...or the Planck satellite. This is me deflecting the question. Or subtly hinting. Or merely not providing a direct answer. One of the three.

Well, after all that undergraduate and post-graduate education, whether I'm "educated" remains an unanswered question. One certainty from those endeavors are the student loans. That's about it.
