ABOUT HIM & WHO HE'S LOOKING FOR

I recently purchased a house and I can't help but notice the similarities between that process and this one. You start with a superficial glance, try to do some sort of in-depth inspection and hope that you find one where you can live with the inevitable set of flaws that you find. You also want to know a little bit of the history, but you also know that it's probably more important to know where you are going with it than where it has been. There's also a double-entendre about older houses and nice woodwork that could be made, but I'll avoid that sort of sordid humor for now... but to just beat this metaphor into the ground a litle bit more, I think I'm pretty promising and shouldn't be on the market for long.

My life is in something of a transition right now and I'm still getting some things in order, but I definitely know who I am and what I want out of life. Just as importantly, I know what I don't want out of my life as well. My daughter is first and foremost in my life and there's nothing that means as much to me as seeing her smile and laugh. Anyone that doesn't want to work to balance that out or feels awkward with that balance is going to have a real uphill struggle with me. But, that said, I would also love to find someone that adds to my life in a very different way. It's more about complimenting than completing... I'm not empty or incomplete, but would love to find someone that would love to share our happiness with each other.

I'm trying to lead the happiest and most positive life that I can right now. As such, I'm not really into anyone that drinks too much, enjoys a victim mentality or likes being controlled by family or friends. Free-thinking, autonomous, educated (not to be confused with formally educated, although that's nice as well), hopefully liberal, socially aware, creative, loves to be outside, but can appreciate curling up in front of a nice independent or foreign film... yeah, the wish list could go on, but you probably get the idea. I'm a pretty stereotypical lefty academic type, but with who also likes to get his hands dirty.

If you think we might hit it off, please let me know. I would love to hear from you!

Random observation: I have noticed a lot of ladies who have expressed disdain for the shirtless bathroom photo, the hunting/fishing photo or the standing next to my nice car photo. A fair number of those same ladies seem to have a lot of photos of them at random bars, with all of their friends that look vaguely similar, all holding up their various drinks. I wonder if they see the irony in that. In short, if you don't like boring, cliche and predictable... Then don't be boring, cliche and predictable. This is true in all things, not just online photos. :)

Additional random obseveration: If all of your photos are of you with family and friends and I have to try to figure out which is the only face that appears in all of them so I know which one *you* are, that's not going to work out too well. This is complicated enough without having to solve logic puzzles (which, for the record, I enjoy) to try to figure out with whom I might be talking. You know what you look like; the rest of us don't.

New random observation: I am finding it hilarious how many people write "I just want a funny, intelligent and caring man", but then at the bottom check only "White/Caucasian" and some mixed variety if Christian. It's like saying if you hit the lottery, you would immediately give half to charity, then hitting and buying a giant mansion instead. We all know what we should do, but in the face of it, it's just easier to do what we want, isn't it? (And selfishly, it makes things complicated for us non-Whites in predominantly White state to try to figure out who would *gasp!* date outside their race.)

One minor change: I've chopped my hair off since the pictures that I have were taken. Short hair now. It's not a huge thing for most people, but I know it is for some.

For fun:

Being with my daughter is the most fun I can have. Being around friends is great also. Digging in the garden. Reading the Sunday paper on a quiet morning. Fresh tea. Homemade soup. Farmer's markets. Hearing a great story or joke.

Favorite hot spots:

The Trylon Microcinema makes very happy. Any bookstore works. I prefer NE Mpls to Uptown for "socializing", although I don't do that much drinking anymore.

I think my favorite spot is just getting in my car and driving in a random direction.

Favorite things:

Musical tastes depends on the mood, but a lot of alternative (80s through modern), punk and classic country/folk. I don't watch that much TV, but will pop in a movie. I have been off red meat for over 20 years, so a nice Indian or Thai meal works.

Last read:

It was probably something for work, but for fun, I've been enjoying _The Best American Nonfiction 2012_. Ray Bradbury's introduction was so completely wonderful and echoed my love of reading and books.
