ABOUT HER & WHO SHE'S LOOKING FOR

A Northern Californian by birth, I moved back to the Bay Area two years ago after over a decade in NYC. Though I miss my east coast friends, I'm glad to be back in the land of foggy mornings, Pacific Ocean air, unbelievable views, and fresh, abundant foods. I've picked up the tennis racket again after a few years and am always up for a game with someone who considers himself a reasonably good player and doesn't grunt or towel off every time he hits the ball.

I have a good feel for who I am and what my values are and am looking for the same in a man. Family, friends and job satisfaction are most important to me. A few years ago I rented a van with six other family members in East Germany to meet up with our relatives. For most, that could sound like 16 days of hell, but my family is so easy going and interesting that most days were filled laughing over beer and bratwurst. Both my friends and family would say that I'm loyal and honest with a good sense of humor, and I seek the same in a partner.

I’ve had my share of relationships-even a marriage proposal-if you can count my dad being offered five camels for my hand in Morocco. I am looking for a man who is happy, secure in who he is and what he does, curious, has a strong moral center - but isn’t particularly religious, values alone time as much as being with me, enjoys travel and sports (particularly watching football and playing any kind of sport). I am very independent, but do not equate that with not being turned on by chivalry-I love it when a man opens a door for me or surprises me with flowers. Men in serious debt need not apply.

I am turned on by intellectual curiosity and a good sense of humor, and I love being with someone who has a diverse set of interests. Life is a work in progress, and we are all learning something everyday-how boring if we weren't! On dates I like to learn as much as I can about you, so an ideal date wouldn’t be too complicated: A good local restaurant or cafe, followed by a walk around the neighborhood until we stumble upon an independent bookstore, where we browse. We grab some dessert (preferably something with chocolate) and share a few good laughs. I also value creativity and am up for new experiences-I may sound decisive, but I can be convinced. Want to do something low cost but really fun? Surprise me! Slides at Seward Park, for example?

I've started a non-official bucket list. Really, it's a list of where I want to travel, though I did cross off trapezing recently... Travel spots next up-Mexico City, Cuba, New Zealand, but the ultimate next stop is seeing the gorillas in Rwanda...Some of my prized possessions include my collection of travel guides, which are dog-eared, marked up, and full of maps of subway lines and postcards from my travels.

Gosh, this all sounds very serious, which I can be at times, but in truth I have finally found the right balance between what is really important in life and what just pretends to be. I appreciate being with someone who is grounded and centered, as I am now in my life, and looking forward to the next phase of life with me.

For fun:

A new restaurant yet to be discovered, movies (especially when they just premiere and I haven't read any reviews), a local swimming pool here which I don't name for fear it will be discovered, anywhere in nature, wherever my close friends are.

Favorite hot spots:

New neighborhoods without a map or GPS. The Dogpatch-who knew? Took a hike up through upper Market to Twin Peaks recently-as a native of the Bay Area, I had (of course) never been up there! Spain, the cenotes of the Yucatan, beaches of Tel Aviv.

Favorite things:

Hiking with my sisters' dogs, watching Cal football, someone who provokes my thinking, getting massages (professional, thank you, unless you are amazing), homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Last read:

I love to read, stay informed, and escape in a good novel or biography. Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand was the last book that stayed with me. In between books, it's the NY Times and the New Yorker (with a little In Style thrown in for good measure)

I'm the best non-Catholic Catholic that my grade school ever had! I drank the Kool Aid and practiced what they preached for 8 yrs, even though my family is neither Catholic nor religious. I'm interested in someone not strongly attached to any faith.
