ABOUT HER & WHO SHE'S LOOKING FOR

Last year was unusual.Went to Cuba, legally from Miami, where I trekked until my shoes wore out, talked with diplomats, naturalists, botanists, sang, danced.Taught English in Morocco where we lived in Peace Corps conditions, bunk beds at "home base" when al-Queda threatens to blow up people who look like me.Absurd.You don't shoot the piano player, or in my case, the English teacher. Ramadan 2013. Embassies closed in ALL neighboring countries. So how did I get there? Born in Detroit General Hospital. Raised on South Side Chicago. A little arthritis from working boning line Stockyards meat packing plant, directory assist operator for Ma Bell IL, morgue of Chicago VA Hospital. My 17th year spent behind Iron Curtain, height of Cold War. Alone. Not speaking a word of local lingo I wanted to figure out how the stream of immigrants flowing through and living in our English-only Chicago home hit distinctive plateaus and were functional in English after 3 months I'd studied Spanish for two years in H.S. and couldn't speak it. At back o' the Yards parties I met folks who were TRI-lingual. Armed with language ability thanks to Boris and Natasha of Bullwinkle Moose cartoons and my scary thick-accented Gramps who referred to us as "Dat Boy and Dat Ger-rel", I went. Best friend since Chicago kindergarten asks about my strange sojourn in Eastern Europe where I had an ewer and a bowl, learned a bath was a want not a need, meat was rare, coffee nonexistent, winter was cold inside and out, "What kind of person DOES that?" I can only tell you that most natural language mechanics I know are timid types. We don't even use our own words most times.

I liked museum jobs 'cause I could TOUCH what the signs said I couldn't.Trotting Horse Museum in Goshen,NY. San Diego Natural History Museum.

Life is good.Peace and serenity, but still plenty of challenges and fun.I've come full-circle.On way back from Morocco visited Paris which I hadn't seen for 40 years. It was surreal to find myself in a boutique hotel off Champs Elysee sorting through 4 different currencies. 'Twas then I realized I'd never be the "O'er the river and thru the woods" kind of grandma. But, grandma that I am, I put monies into plastic zip-locks labeled "Canada, USA, Morocco, Euros".

I've raised two fantastic, globe-trotting, multi-lingual sons. Home-schooled them into Loyola and Colorado State 'cause local Alabama county school system was not going to get them to college. Several years ago #1 son called from Thailand to tell me he's about to become husband and father. I drove to Chicago where younger son studying for Masters exams. I used prof's office to study Chinese while he hit library. He passed. I traveled China, Thailand, and Cambodia for a month.(China, twice more.)

I've had a good run teaching and translating here and abroad these past couple decades. Pretty much retired.I volunteer at Denver Health as a Patient Navigator.

Aside from brief "Enemy of the People" label in Eastern Europe, I only have parking ticket on my record, tho drove for years w/o license. Bothered to finally stand in line at DMV 'cause it was needed for the cheaper "resident" fishing license. So, I'm the teensiest bit of a rule-bender.

I'm looking to fall in love. Natural talents are enhanced, colors brighter, happy is happier. A philosopher said, "What you want to become, you already ARE." I love you as you are.

I have an easy lifestyle. Traded big suburban house and lawn for a little, 123-year old house with tiny yard of flowers in Capitol Hill. I travel occasionally to family and friends. Last month, Florida for my dad's 90th. Next month, GA.

USAF Exercise Manual, (President Kennedy's idea), while Dad sat on the sofa with a martini being "Drill Sargeant Majah, Suh," explains why, today, my sisters and I drink martinis and are such good dancers.

I'm old fashioned, from the days when we didn't learn to ask the man out. I hope you will send me a note first? adieu to Match 4/26.

I enjoy spending time fixing up my old house. Summer's here so I'll be outside tending my crop of mint, catnip, chives, and flowers.

Favorite things:

My home is a museum filled with old furniture and antiques that work: pianos, phonographs, rotary dial phones, roladex.Am probably most comfortable in jeans, but have lots of dresses. Will wear those from 1800's for Westward Ho! at 4-Mile Park in May.

I NEVER HAD IT MADE, Jackie Robinson's autobiography. Magazine subscriptions include Scientific American, Scientific American Mind, Nat' Geographic. I find factual history and science more exciting than fiction.
