Hi! I am a normal, even-keeled kind of guy, originally from small-town Texas and currently pushing through the restless research phase of an MD-PhD. I do work around maternal and child health, psychology, and economics in Africa. I am quietly passionate about righting social wrongs, comforting the aggrieved, rooting for the underdog, and connecting with people in ways that restore wholeness to lives and relationships. I am more vocally passionate about eating cookies in bed while watching Office reruns all day.
I've been influenced by Marx, Weber, Levinas, Rawls, Foucault, Freire, Kozol, Geertz, Evans-Pritchard, Merleau-Ponty, Sa?d, Sen, Singer, Farmer, Rilke, Yeats, Dostoevsky, Morrison, Murakami, Thich Nhat Hanh, Nouwen, Bonhoeffer, Boff, and Simone (not Andrew!) Weil.
What I'm looking for:
Here are three things. First, a big heart: Do you empathize instinctively and strongly? Are you serious about kindness? Second, idealism and ambition tempered by self-possession and pragmatism: Are you a dreamer and a doer? A lover and a fighter? Finally, breadth of expression, depth of feeling, fullness of presence: Is there an artist in you? Can you embrace both the silly and the serious sides of life, the rapture and the misery, the order and the mystery?
