ABOUT HIM & WHO HE'S LOOKING FOR

First things first: I'm totally prepared to lie about how we met.

With that out of the way...my name is Brendan.

What I am:

Native San Franciscan. Autodidact. Sabiosexual. Pragmatic idealist. Bashful extrovert. Confident, but not arrogant. Sarcastic, and a master of intentionally awkward humor. Poised and polished when I need to be, relaxed when I want to be. Genuine, compassionate, patient and supportive. Catholic, but interested in Buddhism. Frat boy, but not a jerk (...I know that sounds oxymoronic, but trust me on this one). Freemason (and no, I don't perform druid rituals, burn effigies, or sacrifice livestock). Half of me aspires to be the boy next door your mom wants you to marry. The other half? That obnoxious guy your father has nightmares about.

What I do:

I work for the Bar Association of San Francisco. I also volunteer as a tutor and serve as a Member of the Board of Directors of San Francisco Students Back on Track, a non-profit organization that provides free one-on-one academic tutoring and social mentoring to under-served San Francisco youth. I put family first: my father had a very invasive surgery about a year ago, and now has some chronic health problems, so I moved back home to help keep the house running. Hope that's not a turnoff. I think filial responsibility is an admirable quality.

In my spare time:

I love to go on adventures. My idea of a fun weekend is to go sailing, SCUBA diving, surfing, golfing or backpacking. I was a competitive rower in high school and for my first two years at UCLA (until frat life got in the way of waking up at 4:45am for morning practices). I'm looking to join a Master's rowing team.

How I think:

My father was a left-leaning Political Science Professor and it rubbed off on me. I read non-fiction. Lots of it. Especially works on history, sociology, political economy, critical theory and epistemology. I would SO get a Ph.D. in Political Science...if it meant I could secure a good job... but I'm too practical to get another almost useless degree (one is plenty, thank you!) so I will be pursuing an MBA. I also love learning new languages. Aunque no soy un hablante nativo de espanol, hablo con fluidez. Et j'apprends fran?ais.

How I treat other people:

I'm a gentleman (yes, a few still exist!). I'm honest, but still tactful. I don't judge people. I don't give up on friendships/relationships. I never tell people how to live their lives. I try my best not to flake, especially when someone is counting on me for support. I'm forgiving, almost to a fault. I admit when I'm wrong, and I try very hard to rectify my mistakes.

About my date:

Sometimes, girls get intimidated by me because I'm open with my feelings. I don't play games. If I like a girl, I tell her. And when I do, that doesn't mean that I'm ready to jump in the sack or get married; it just means that I genuinely enjoy her company, and that I'd like to make a real, wholehearted effort to see where things go (preferably without having to concurrently compete against other suitors).

I can't date a girl who takes herself too seriously. It's not because I don't like serious girls, but rather because serious girls take my banter (read: how I flirt) too literally, as snobbish and formalistic (when in fact it's not), or as insulting (when I really mean for it to be playful).

With all that said, I'm looking to date, and if it feels right, for a committed relationship. I'm interested in someone who is originally from the Bay Area or who at least plans on settling here long term (I'm a native San Franciscan and I don't want to leave!). Moreover, I'm looking for a lady who, above all else, is a friend: someone I can share laughter with, who I can commiserate with, who values learning, personal growth and family, and who feels the need to DO things in order to be happy.

If you can handle all that, I think we'd get along well.
