Winks, a never-working instant messenger, lists of "wants" in a match, awkward first emails and browsing profiles based primarily on thumbnail sized photographs. Oh the world of online dating...it's such an unnatural, alternative method to dating than the traditional socially acceptable way it once was.
This whole process reminds me of Vince Vaughn's monologue in Wedding Crashers, where he rambles on about jumping into a "forced, awkward intimate situation called dating". If he were to talk about online dating, I imagine it would go a little like this:
-You're sitting at your computer wondering, should I wink? Should I not wink? Am I winking too much now? What does a wink really mean? Does it say, "hey, I dig your profile"? Or is it like a high-five? I don't really know! Maybe I should email? What do I write? Am I writing too much, or am I not writing enough? Maybe I'm writing to someone who isn't subscribed and I'm wasting time! How long do we email before we actually meet? 3 days, 3 weeks? Is it too soon or not soon enough? Are they really interested, am I really intersted? Should I act like I'm not interested, now they're not interested and now suddenly I'm finding myself interested! Do we shake hands when we meet or hug? Do I go in for the real deal or do one of those odd awkward butt-out hugs because I don't really want to get too close. It's really a difficult situation to read! Haha
On a slightly more serious note, a little insight to who I am.
If my friends were to describe me as a cocktail I'd be: 1 part- sarcastic, 1 part- good humored, 1-part genuine, 1 part- loyal, add a splash of stubbornness, and garnish with quirkiness! Many times I've been labeled as a "good guy" and part of a "rare breed".
Similar to many, I too value my relationships with family and friends! It's never about the quantity, but more about the quality of friends you have. I feel extremely fortunate to have such caring family and friends in my life, no matter how far away they may be. My parents divorced when I was little and I grew up around 5 sisters. Yes I was picked on and there was far too much estrogen! Haha! Although both parents remarried I try to visit and attend family traditions as often as I can.
Who and what am I looking for? Nobody wants to compare themselves to a list, however I am drawn to the "girl next door". Someone who is warm-hearted, intelligent, and doesn't mind being a little goofy! I can say I prefer someone who likes to be out and active as much as they enjoy a nice evening in (a good balance is key). Have a good head on your shoulders? Love to laugh? Great, that's a start!! OH! Really would like to meet a gal who can golf, or maybe wants to learn!
