ABOUT HIM & WHO HE'S LOOKING FOR

I moved here from Florida about a year and a half ago, and I'm having an unusually difficult time functioning socially in Arizona. I'm getting the impression that people like me don't belong here, but I have a fantastic job, a wonderful home, and I do enjoy the scenery and the outdoor activities, so I'm doing my best to fit in without compromising my integrity.

What people actually do and what they say they do are often unaligned. So here is how I actually spend my free time right now: First, I read a lot of non-fiction in the form of news articles and books. I'm a professional writer, so I also write a lot during working hours, but my recreational writing is usually limited to the weekends.

I've been in martial arts for 4 years, and am passionate about improving my skills. However, I don't watch MMA or UFC or any other acronyms on TV.

I volunteer an hour or two per week as a hospice companion.

I get out and hike about once a month, but for a while I was on a different trail every Sunday. I play guitar every day, but I'm not in a band and don't have much desire to take my act outside of my living room. I have a lot of fun playing guitar, but I'm not very good and I wouldn't ever consider myself a serious musician.

I prepare all of my own meals, and eat only real food.

I have season tickets to the Arizona Opera, and I usually go to at least two rock concerts per year. I'm always on the lookout for good shows to go to.

Looking back at my vacation history, I've gone on one big vacation almost once per year for the past five years. I might skip this year and use that time and money to go and see some old friends instead.

I go out to the pool hall one night a week for a few hours, usually by myself. I've been playing pool since I was a kid.

I used to have a regular low-stakes poker game back in Florida, and I would like to do something like that here, too, but I don't know where to begin.

I sold my motorcycle when I left Florida, and I really miss riding, so getting another sportbike is high on my list.

It frustrates me a little that I have to clarify that I'm not lying about my age, height, or body type, and my photos are either recent or have the date they were taken in the caption.

Maybe it sounds silly, but I'm looking for someone truly special; someone who, like me, doesn't really belong here. I'm attracted to women who are thin, confident, non-religious, uniquely stylish, and above all else kind and compassionate. I'm turned off by sarcasm, passive-aggression, and all other forms of social hostility; rage, anger, and provocative behavior; and ignorance.

Last read:

The Art of Happiness, by the Dalai Lama. Actually I'm still working on it. I'm reading it slowly so that I can think about applying each concept. I don't want to just "know" it, I want to learn it.
