ABOUT HIM & WHO HE'S LOOKING FOR

I'm a naturally reserved Physics major who was raised by English majors. While I'm an idealistic romantic at heart, a first impression will more strongly convey that I'm as much a cynic. While typing this, I'm estimating the odds of finding true love on the web (or at all), yet still believing that it could happen. Once in a blue moon I buy lottery tickets, too. Still, I promise my idealistic romantic side will make it worth your while to get to know me beyond a first impression. I should add that my notions of romance can be unconventional (and skew far from clichés) but will not disappoint.

I argue tirelessly, endlessly, and occasionally (I would like to claim "very occasionally" but won't) foolishly, about anything: current events, public policy, bioethics, effects of technology on society, literature, theater, and more. I crave a debate partner and fellow wordsmith who can pick and sometimes win battles.

I have dabbled in sailing, judo, and ballroom dancing (in that order, over the years). These days I do a bit of running and swimming, but not enough even to say that I dabble and mostly to mark time until I find "the next thing" in which actually to dabble.

I love to play with the English language, and delight in opportunities to make off-color yet still highbrow remarks. Some of these I hold in check until I feel certain that they're appropriate in the context of a given relationship. (See? I'm reserved). I take pains to ensure that my grammar is only ever impeccably contorted.

I appreciate dry and quick wit, along with wry, sardonic, and dark humor. I have an excellent straight face.

My fractionally Italian heritage holds disproportionate sway in culinary matters. I am a meat-eater and wine-drinker; however there's an excellent chance that I can cook at least one thing you will like even if you're neither. That being said, while it's not a must-have for me to find a fellow wine-drinker, there's a side of me that will always be lonely if I don't, because I do love to share a good bottle. Then again, for the right girl I'll happily let that side be lonely -- and sometimes tipsy, because "a (good) wine is a terrible thing to waste."

Should we meet, do not be alarmed by the action of my eyebrows. I'm reserved, but they are not. If they contort like my grammar, it means that you have said something interesting and I'm trying to craft an equally-interesting response. Or more-interesting. My competitive side mostly lurks, but it's not completely dormant.

I often over-think even simple things, out loud, at length, and without letting anyone get in a word edgewise until I draw breath. Ending up with me means being willing to roll your eyes at least a couple of times a week. It's not the *only* way I've made women's eyes roll, but it is by far the most common. (See? Off-color, yet -- I hope you will agree- also highbrow. And honest. Did I mention I'm honest?) I also pun (but never cheaply). Perhaps your eyes have rolled already, but if not let me just say that "a good wine…" is not my best work. Oh, and also that puns are not the *only* other way that… well, never mind. I don't know you well enough to finish that.

My penchant for off-color commentary notwithstanding, I'm a church-going Catholic with traditional values. While finding a fellow Catholic isn't -- quite -- a must-have for me, finding highly-compatible values definitely is. I hold marriage within the Church in high regard. I volunteer once a month. I keep a stash of granola bars in my car to give to panhandlers. I'm looking for someone fundamentally kind-hearted and generous of self. "Be men and women for others," they exhorted us at my Jesuit high school. I daresay it took with me, and I hope to find something similar in you.

Shakespeare, Shaw;

I don't read as much as I used to. Thought-provoking (and/or classic early-era) science fiction is most likely to get me turning the pages. These days I'm working my way through some Philip K Dick I somehow haven't read yet.
