I am a new-ish Philadelphian by way of Des Moines, Chicago, and Baton Rouge where I grew up, went to college, and was an elementary school teacher, respectively. I am a first-year doctoral student studying education leadership and can often be found hovering over my laptop with a Trenta-sized black coffee, procrastinating while listening to Elton John Pandora. I absolutely love kids, especially the trouble-makers, and hope to make a career out of making schools a little bit better for low-income kiddies.
For non-work related fun, I am very into going out and trying new restaurants (although I refuse to call myself a “foodie”…) and doing “festive” things around the city. Any sort of outdoor day drinking is a.o.k. with me as well as brunch at any time of day or night. I also try to travel as often as I can, visiting my family in Des Moines or friends across the country. My group of best friends from college and I stay in eerily good touch and go on epic friend reunions several times a year, my favorite being hosting 15 people for Mardi Gras last year. Although I love me some ‘Merican adventures, I am definitely an ex-pat at heart and try to bounce across the ocean any time I can. I studied European history in college so I use that as an excuse to go but I mostly just love the wine and excuse to not check my email. I am also currently trying to learn how to cook like a real adult. Any tips would be much appreciated.
Now as a full-time student, I can say that I have been very successful at catching up on three years of TV I missed during my tenure as a teacher. My movie screenwriter sister and I both believe you can tell a lot about someone by what TV they watch (or if they don’t watch TV at all). My favorite shows are as follows: The West Wing, Mad Men, Friday Night Lights, GOT and Curb Your Enthusiasm. I am basically just looking for someone who is more like President Bartlett and Coach Taylor and less like Don Draper or a Lannister, to laugh at Larry David with! Looking forward to meeting fun people to explore the city with!
