If all I had was $100 and 12 hours, this is what I would do. Yoga class in morning, farmers market for heirloom tomatoes, almonds and fresh cut flowers, sushi for lunch, Intelligentsia, Troubadour or El Rey to see Arcade Fire or maybe Mumford.
I spend most days on my feet, pacing the courtroom, arguing my client's cause to a judge and twelve members of our community; I spend many nights standing on my head (literally), remembering to breathe, clearing my mind and being in the moment.
Here's what I find interesting. Smiling. Compassion without conditions. Affection. Questioning authority (I was a punk rocker as a teen). Leading others through example without caring whether anyone follows. Random acts of poetry. Inappropriate humor (remind me again why certain people get to define what is "appropriate.") The First Amendment, free speech and this quote by Evelyn Beatrice Hall: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Anonymous giving. Meditation (i'm up to oh, um, 37 seconds. Work in progress. Sigur Ros' album () helps.) Art and artists (I admire that which I cannot do). Being inverted. Taking chances. Native Foods (vegan meatball sub -- trust me, even carnivores will love it). Uni. David Deida. John Stewart. Chopped, Top Chef, Iron Chef (you get the idea -- I aspire to culinary greatness). Public Radio. KCRW. "Golden Light" by Twin Shadow live on KCRW. Trying to figure out why the two women sitting at the table next to me as I type this profile are SO fascinated by "Fifty Shades of Grey" -- someone, help me out here.
Here's what i'm good at. i'm the guy everyone comes to when they have a problem. can you find me a plumber? check. My boyfriend doesn't have a clue what to buy me for my birthday, can you help? check. can you help me deconfribulate my computer? uhhhhh; not so much.
This about sums me up:
“Life is short, Break the Rules.
Forgive quickly, Kiss SLOWLY.
Love truly. Laugh uncontrollably
And never regret ANYTHING
That makes you smile.”
- Mark Twain
