I have discovered that, when asked to describe myself and what/who I am looking for in words, it really makes me think, because otherwise, I would just know her when I saw her. I can tell you that I am the happiest when I'm in the mountains. I visited the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina when I was a teenager and was immediately drawn to them. I didn't want to leave and I kept going back. Unfortunately at the time, my life, school, job and family were all here in Florida. I was drawn to the slower, laid back lifestyle, fresh air, and magnificent scenery that exists at a mile above sea level and knew I would eventually live in that environment.
Two of the best ways to enjoy the mountains is to go hiking in the summer and snow skiing in the winter. That is when I realized I was an adrenaline junkie. I seemed to always want “higher and faster”. Within two years of learning to ski, I learned to fly. During my senior year in high school, I would ride my bike about 5 miles to the local airport to take flying lessons. After four months of lessons, I got my pilot license when I was 17. I would have loved to make a career out of it, but back then, I was led to believe that only ex military could get a job flying for the major carriers so I looked elsewhere.
In keeping with the theme of “higher and faster”, I began traveling to the Rocky Mountains and skiing at over two miles above sea level. I got into racing and even skied on the Florida ski team one year. (yes, Florida does have a ski team). I would snowmobile on the continental divide and soak up the local culture and lifestyle every chance I could get. Subsequent trips to the Sierras of California and Nevada and the Northwest Territories of Canada, reinforced the notion that this is where I ultimately needed to settle down.
Between these early years and the present, “life” took over and interrupted my focus, I have just started to turn my attention back to the dreams I once had of living where I like to play.
Life is always more exciting for me when I have something to look forward to. Since I love to travel, I love the anticipation of a ski trip to the Rockies for a week of hard core skiing and high country living or flying my airplane to the Bahamas for snorkeling, fishing, fine dining and the Jimmy Buffet lifestyle of a tropical Island. I have flown into Bimini, Grand Bahama, Treasure Cay, Marsh Harbor and Nassau.
Closer to home, I enjoy taking the airplane to explore new areas. In advance, I would locate a restaurant in the area and make plans to eat there. The best places I've found are St. Simons Island Georgia, Jekyll Island Georgia, Cedar Key, St. Augustine and Palm Coast. These type of trips can be planned the same day, but usually a 2 or 3 day window is sufficient to make sure the weather will cooperate.
I enjoy local comedy clubs, live theater, Cheesecake and coffee at the Cheesecake Factory, and probably a dozen things I can't even think of right now. On occasion, I also play acoustic guitar and sing with a friend I grew up with. Back in the “day”, we played at a ski resort in Aspen and played live on the radio in North Carolina.
My time is my own. My business works for ME. Going forward, I intend to have a stress free, drama free life filled with fun and adventure and I hope to spend it with someone who wants the same. Family is very important. I don't have a very large family, so I look forward to meeting someone who does. I have been "separated" 8 1/2 years, I just haven't made it down to the courthouse yet. I would like to ultimately retire to a log home in the high Rockies but know that a tropical paradise is just a plane ride away.
Who am I looking for? I'll know her when I see her, but if the above appeals to you, you should contact me.
