I moved to the area about a year ago after spending a year doing human rights work in southern Africa, and I'm enjoying getting to know the city. Some stuff about me: I like to plan silly, overly elaborate parties for friends. I care passionately about human rights. I'm a reader, and I've usually got more than one book going at the same time. I love the outdoors, particularly hiking and camping, but I don't get out of the city as much as I 'd like. One of the big plans for next year is to take a backpacking trip and hike a portion of the Appalachian trail with some friends. Getting dressed up for no reason at all is pretty much the best idea ever. My dream trip involves purchasing a 4X4 and camping along the east coast of Africa (to the extent possible). A weekly Sunday potluck with friends is one of my favorite regular activities. I love going to the theater, but don't care if you go with me. In the past couple of years, I've learned to ski, knit, and drive stick, with varying degrees of success. One of my goals for this year is to get more involved in DC as a community through additional volunteer work. I'm looking for someone who is intellectually curious and likes to explore the world around him, be it heading out on a backpacking trip, exploring a museum, or reading a book.
