ABOUT HER & WHO SHE'S LOOKING FOR

I was recently asked, "Would you give up an ideal or two, now, for the chance to find "happiness"?"

My answer: I guess it depends upon which two ideals were on the chopping block. Also, I don't believe in putting responsibility for my happiness on anyone else. I have made the choices I've made based upon what I knew at the time the choice had to be made.. I'm bummed I don't have a companion with whom to share life's journey, but apparently the person who fits that bill hasn't come along. Who could keep up with me? Or want to? Of course, if I found someone, I think I would be inspired to make "us" decisions, rather than "me" choices.

I lived in Newport, RI for 18 years. Did a lot of sailing there. Big regattas and offshore deliveries. Also worked for a government contractor as a Technical Writer and Financial Analyst. Just leased out my home there for two years. Now to see what's next. Maybe you're part of that.

Getting better at letting it be. "No doubt the Universe is unfolding as it should." (Max Ehrmann)

Being comfortable with yourself is really attractive.

You should be able to stand up for what you believe in, but If you have all sorts of preconceived notions that nothing will cause you to release, we're not a good match.

I like to run and road bike; have done a few half-marathons and bicycled from Denver to Chicago. I like words--reading and writing them. Really enjoy sharing morning coffee. I mean you have yours and I have mine, of course, but we drink coffee together. At least on days off.

I've always paid my bills, but if I made money my first priority, I'd have pursued a career in Manhattan, since I spent the first 28 years of my life in the CT suburbs. I choose quality over bling 95% of the time and even when I go for bling, it's usually quality.

I really enjoy plants and animals and most children and seniors. Learned manners and etiquette as a child and have held on to them through the years--please, thank you, chew with your mouth closed, etc.

I'm looking for someone to do things with--from planting tomatoes to hikes in the mountains to overseas travel to movie night in. From mundane to magnificent.

I'll look good standing next to you, and I'll cheer you on, but I'm a participant, not a spectator. I get dirty and I clean up well. I can hang sheet rock and plan and host an amazing party.

Even though I still believe in the concept of soul mates (or similar), I also have enough anecdotal experience and observation to wonder how a man and a woman ever stay together. (And I'm not sure it's any easier for same-sex couples, but I don't have any personal experience there.) I honestly think "forever" is an outdated concept. Worked when we didn't live to 90 AND when we didn't expect our mate to be the center of our universe, and us theirs. Men (generally) used to form groups to hunt or plow or work in factories and women (generally) went off in groups to cook, tend children, home-make. A lot of our respective needs were filled outside/in addition to our relationship with our partner. This has changed due to the ever-expanding possibilities and ever-shrinking world, with everything at our fingertips through a keyboard, and the possibility that something more awaits. Still, our paths may take us a long way together. Why not enjoy the journey?
