I have lived in California for 5 years now, I like it here since there are lots of things to do. I have 2 sisters that live in the area so that makes it even nicer. I grew up in Nebraska and still have a lot of the midwest values. I like being creative and my job lets me do that, so I guess that is nice also. I don't think it is difficult to meet people, but finding good friends and especially that special connection with someone does seem elusive. Not sure if this will help, but hopefully it will not hurt.
