Undisputedly labeled the ‘nice guy’… and proud of it!
So how else would I describe myself? Well, growing up, I was the kid that from sun up until sun down was climbing trees, biking on trails, swimming until I was pruned, and running and playing until there was nothing left in the tank. And honestly, not much has changed since then, except that I’m a little older now. I’m big fan of the outdoor playground, being active, and working out. Kayaking, adventure races, swimming, snowboarding, scuba; the list goes on, but beach volleyball and ice hockey definitely top the list for my favorite ‘local’ activities.
Local or not, I’m always looking to find new adventures; but given the choice, I’m going to travel, and my favorite trips take me to new exotic places where I get to experience the local history, culture, and cuisine (“do as the locals do”) as well as THEIR outdoor playground… hiking in the mountains is a definite favorite! Although, a regular ski/snowboarding or island trip is always good too :).
All of this isn’t to say that I don’t like my ‘down’ time as well; I do enjoy just sitting outside, laying back to read a book, or watching a movie or favorite show. And when it comes to going out, you’re much more likely to find me at a dinner party, a house party, or just hanging out with friends at a small restaurant/bar; rather than a crowded club.
I try to life to its fullest; appreciating everything it has to offer… family, friends, science/nature, history, animals, and good food (lots of good food!). Cooking is a passion of mine and with the amount I eat, it’s probably a good thing I’m as active as I am… but I do like to keep pretty healthy regardless.
I’d say I’m extremely easy going and while I can be stubborn at times, I say it’s only in the good way... I’m a strong believer in a try everything and a can do philosophy! I’ve been told my first ‘complete’ sentence as a child was “i do it i-self”.
I’m serious when I have to be, but you’ll almost always find me with a permanent big smile – always looking for a good laugh or trying to make others laugh. And my humor tends to run the range from witty, dry, and sarcastic to straight up cheesy, so if you have an appreciation of dry or smart humor, it would be a plus!
I love art, and have done just about every form you can think of from painting to photography to sculpture, but strangely enough, I opted with the other side of my brain for work and went into structural engineering. I’m currently a structural forensic engineer and I love my job… It keeps me outside, challenges my mind, and I often get to climb stuff or even go scuba diving for work from time to time :)
I know what I’m looking for, but trying to put it to words (just like trying to describe myself), would take longer than just meeting up and getting to know you. Generally, I’m looking for someone who’s passionate about the things they do; who’s active and fit, with similar interests, but not so much that we can’t learn from and challenge each other.
