OK... here goes: I'm originally from The Great White North, and even though the Bay Area has been home for a little over 12 years, I still get a kick over not having to dig the car out of the snow in the winter. I'm pretty laid back, fun-loving and can make most people laugh without embarassing myself (or anyone else)... at least not too much. I have a fruitful career and put a lot of energy into my work, but I make a concerted effort to 'leave it on the field' to make time for family, friends and fun (my favorite 'F' words).
I'm a total music buff and guitar junkie, and get to channel the likes of Deep Purple, Bon Jovi, Journey and Styx as the guitar player in an occasionally-gigging classic rock cover band. I also play ice hockey in San Jose a few times a week (and still have all of my original teeth intact!).
Overall, I have a healthy fascination with just about everything, and enough of a sense of adventure to give anything a try (so long as it won't earn me a Darwin Award). In the recent past, I've run 2 marathons and made it to the very top of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
I'm pretty outgoing and can spark up a conversation with just about anyone when out and about. I also have an overactive inner monologue, which I happily share (by now, I'm sure you've figured that out, given my copious use of parentheses).
Likes:
Friends and Family time, being an uncle to two incredible nieces that always seem to get me covered in peanut butter and sparkly stickers, long runs in scenic places, playing and watching ice hockey, singing along (badly) to 80s glam rock ballads, Trader Joe's, creative spins on classic breakfasts, insanely spicy food, random trivia, witty puns, intelligent sarcasm, adventures in countries where I don't speak the language, originality in art and music and McDonald's fries.
Things that make me run for the hills:
Apathy, spray-tans, reality shows, Fox news anchors, drama (unless we're talking about HBO's 'Entourage'), new-age religious dogma, narcissism, mind-game olympics, oversharing on Facebook, and celebrity for celebrity's sake.
What I'm looking for:
I've never really had a specific type, but I'd say that I'd love to meet someone who is energetic, outgoing, family-oriented, intelligent and quick-witted, with a quirky sense of humor. Someone who is ambitious and passionate about what they do (professionally, personally or otherwise), independent, secure in who they are, and who enjoys regular detours from the mainstream. HUGE bonus points if you happen to play music, love the great outdoors and endurance sports, insanely spicy food, Will Ferrell movies and re-runs of Seinfeld.
Ultimately, I'm intent on finding that someone who fits just right and am ready to build a great future together. This might sound a bit hokey, but I do dream a lot about having a family.
On a related note, I should mention that I have a Green Card, simply because-- let's face it: nothing can squash a good date vibe quite like the nagging wonder of whether you're being looked upon solely as 'deportation prevention' rather than as great companionship.
And one last thing: Ladies, what's with the lofty height requirements? I'm beginning to relive those feelings that came about in the wake of being turned away from Splash Mountain at Disneyworld as a little kid.
But then again, if-- at 5"10 (for real)-- I look like a smurf standing next to you wearing your favorite pair of Jimmy Choos, I guess it just ain't meant to be. -)
