I'm always in motion and constantly curious. I love learning new things through formal and informal channels: more about the thoughts, emotions, and motivations of people in my life; how to refinish wooden furniture; how to dance classical ballet (I started taking classes when I moved to DC a couple of years ago); and how to speak Taiwanese/Hokkien. Needless to say, I'm a huge nerd, and have the glasses to match.
I'm what my friends refer to as a "cruise director": I love hosting dinner parties for 20 or so people with themes like "Thankspigging" and "Who Needs Love When You Can Have Pork." I also have a standing weekly dinner party with some of my friends that started as family dinner, and through a stressful period at work began to be known as "bitchin' chicken" where we vent and eat chicken. I realized that from my username and this paragraph I seem food obsessed, and I am, but a large part of that is how sharing a meal can bring people together and foster genuine conversation.
Since I'm frequently surrounded by people, it is not always obvious that I'm actually pretty private and shy. I may not devote enough time to it, but I like to sit around, reflect, and/or watch TV on the internet. I like crowds, but I also value my relationships and despite growing up in Montreal and Chicago and moving every year since I turned 18, I manage to keep in touch with people from each phase of my life. I think this is at least partially attributable to loyalty, inside jokes, technology diffusion, and the timing of certain NHL labor disputes.
I'm looking for someone who's easy going and who can have just as much fun preparing a simple meal and talking for hours as he can on an elaborate adventure, and has his own activities and passions, but is willing to join the "cruise" every once in a while.
