ABOUT HIM & WHO HE'S LOOKING FOR

A favorite quote, from a Joseph Conrad novella, resonates: “Let them think what they liked, but I didn’t mean to drown myself. I meant to swim until I sank – but that’s not the same thing.” I empathize with the need to surrender to one’s passion, despite the expense of even modest, or dramatic, self-destruction. Let others on shore stand and watch.

When I was younger, an inner voice told me I should strive for my decisions and choices of what I did and where I would go to accurately reflect some earnest sense of my inner identity, and by doing so I would “find myself,” so to speak. That phase has run its course. I now know who I am. I’ve found my voice. My current chapters are of intrepid creation. I swim, without sinking.

My yearning optimism and positivity defiantly resists perpetual wearing negative news of the present and foreboding future omens. Historically, we are all in the so-called 1%. Show me we have not reached our zenith.

My will is strong. My pursuits are focused. I am an extraverted introvert. I have a small but strong number of friends with whom I am gregarious. Socializing among strangers is no problem, as long as there’s a reason. My naturally tendendcy to inclusively accomodate makes for a good and adventuresome travel partner, abroad or domestic. Sometimes my insatiable need for momentum breeds restlessness. Material possessions can make some parts of life a bit easier, but I prefer to be creative with my time and energy, without collecting too much clutter. I enjoy the luxurious freedoms of the 21st century. Opportunity to travel. Opportunity for avacado. I am comfortable in my masculinity. But beer hurts my tummy. Hearty stouts excepted.

I want to know true things, even if they’re hard to hear. Ice cream is delicious. It’s true. I can break it to you slowly, but it would melt.

I listen attentively.

Pauses speak.

I’m looking for a whip-smart woman who is confident within her own skin and mind. Walks with a purpose, knows how to drive a stick shift, and leans forward into all of life’s adventures, self-made and otherwise. A woman who can throw open the shutters to command a crowd by day, and draws the shades at night. She takes care of herself, and others around her, stranger or friend. She patiently cultivates and strategizes, yet is contagiously impulsive. A woman who can articulate where she’s been, where she’s at, and where’s she’s headed, and why. And, with healthy measure, doubts it all. Eager to squeeze in all of life’s bountiful opportunities. She has to think long and hard before coming up with something that she’s afraid of. (And might have noticed that last sentence ended with a preposition.)

At some not far away point, I would like to have children. The human horizon for procreation feels cruel. Perhaps modern luxury has indulged us in a lifetime convenience, distracting us from this biological reality. I confess I feel my efforts to launch, and help make soar, a lifelong partnership requires me to partner with someone no older than me. There, I said it.

Another disclaimer: For work, I fly to southern California for two to three nights, almost once a week, within weekdays. I don’t do it out of desperation for employment. Rather, I’ve got an opportunity to help something positive from down south help grow here in the bay area, and I’m happy to do it. The arrangement is smooth, and will eventually taper.

That’s all for my declarations and disclaimers. If you think we might have a spark, please send me a simple “hello,” or more. We’ll take it from there.

Trust me, I'm a scientist. (Insert maniacal cackling.) A lifelong interest and passion has been where people look and attend, and what they see. I've somehow wrangled a thriving career by marrying the romantic with the technical.
