Welcome to my profile! I hope that by reading this you get to know a little bit about me, at least enough to make an honest judgment call about whether we have something in common worth pursuing. I will view your profile with the same honesty, I promise.
I am generally optimistic and upbeat. My friends would say that I am the opposite of high maintenance and I am very practical -- I may be dressed up in a skirt and heels but have no problem jumping on a Capital Bikeshare bike to get where I need to go (I do get weird looks occasionally). My sense of humor leans toward the witty, sarcastic, and sometimes self-deprecating genre. I like to stay informed about current events and to be able to share thoughts and ideas with the person I'm with.
I've lived in DC for over 10 years and really love the balance of the social and cultural scene, the huge outdoor/active community, and the solid people I've met here. I like and am still challenged by my job of 10 years with the same company. Some domestic travel and an occasional international trip for work keep things interesting.
Outside of work, one of my favorite things to do is meet friends for a couple of drinks and good conversation. My default is a casual bar, restaurant, or wine bar where we can hear each other talk, but I can't turn down a nice romantic date night. I recently made a decision to do a better job of taking advantage of all that DC has to offer by becoming a member in 1-2 different museums each year and to make more of an effort to look for interesting lectures, exhibits, and book-readings in general. So far so good!
For years, I have stayed active mostly through running and have quite a few marathons to show for it! There are a lot of beautiful places to run in DC and a great running community! I know the Rock Creek and Capital Crescent trails by heart. Running as a way to explore a new city is definitely the way to go. Though I enjoy it (clearly) I am not obsessive when it comes to running; I keep it balanced with my social life and I don't require that the person I am dating also be a runner (althought that would be fine). I also like biking and swimming, and have started taking yoga classes which has been a great change for me, at first helping me through a running-related injury, and now I continue to reap the benefits.
I have always been more independent than most people I know, and I do best in relationships that are mutually supportive but also leave room for both of us to pursue our individual interests when we want to. I'm looking for someone with a great sense of humor (a combination of sarcasm and purposely corny jokes works great) and of course someone that complements my personality well -- that "something" that is hard to define but I know it when I see it (you probably do too)! If this sounds like you, shoot me an e-mail!
