ABOUT HIM & WHO HE'S LOOKING FOR

I'm a NY native who moved out to the bay area almost immediately after school about 12 years ago. I've been in SF for the last 8. I could say at this point I'm fully Californian (or maybe San Franciscan if that means anything). Point is; most of the East Coast is washed out of me even though I like to think I can still hack it out there. It's been years since I complained about lack of "seasons", however that complaint may just be lying dormant. It was rough at first. My mother used to send me a ziplock full of fallen leaves the first couple Fall's. I still like to try to get out there to see it in person every few years or so.

Anyway I've had my ups and downs with SF, as ya do, but things are going pretty well here these days. I've got a good job that offers me a great work-life balance. My "interesting" home-owning experience is finally settling down (crazy story, you'll hear all about it), and I've collected lots of great and interesting friends who get me into interesting things.

I'm generally a quiet person. The consensus amongst my friends has always been that I'm a rewarding friend when you get to know me, however I'm not the most gregarious extrovert in brand new social settings (unless they're very comfortable, and then yeah still probably no). Still I do know how to have fun with new folks. But when I get to know folks I am huge fun. seriously, loads.

music has always figured largely for me. When I came to SF I fell in with a lot of musicians and music business folks. Seriously you could throw a rock in any direction and it'd hit 7 DJs before it hit the ground. I've gotten to see and do lots of fun things in the music scene here. My tastes are pretty broad ranging from folk music to electronic, but they're tending to mellow out these days. Still I do appreciate the occasional small club thing or a festival, especially if someone I'm with is into it, but it's totally cool if that person isn't.
cooking is pretty important. I cook every pretty much every day, although that doesn't mean I don't appreciate dining out or ordering in as well. Cooking is probably the closest I'll ever come to meditation. Perfect way to unwind or even start the day. I'm an adventurous cook, and by most (actually all) accounts I'm good at it. I love cooking for other people. so not kidding.
I have a car I never use and generally get around the city on a motorcycle. I realize bikes scare a lot of people. This one is big, heavy, comfortable, and handles like a cow, not a scary sport bike. If you're terrified of bikes thats OK, and it's surmountable, but it's just SO much easier to get around this way. I like to take rides out of the city when the weather's nice too.
I desperately love dogs. I always told myself I love them too much than to subject one to my lifestyle while in the city, but a few years ago I came across one that I knew I could provide a better life than what he had, and it turns out suited my lifestyle. I hope you're at least OK with dogs. Everyone loves this one. Yes, he sheds some so it's not very uncommon to have to at times brush a few dog hairs off of a black outfit if it matters. Such is life with dogs. On weekends I try to bring him out to the beach or a park if possible.
I do like to travel the opportunity comes. I usually let others take the lead as far as choosing where to go and what to do, but I have some ideas for the next few trips.
The usual interest list stuff is down there, and they're all true, but out of that list I'll note art and museums as a key one. Music/Art/Food are also critical, and big bonuses of life in SF.
I hope your humor has at least a bit of an edge to it. You can dish out a decent ribbing because I am occasionally ridiculous. You can also handle one yourself because of course you are often ridiculous too.
And it really doesn't hurt if you enjoy watching Bizarre Foods.

For fun:

Most things are explicitly mentioned elsewhere, but I'll note here that I haven't gone camping as much as I'd like to in recent years (festivals don't count). I'd like to fix that soon if possible. And I'm resolved to travel more in general.

Favorite hot spots:

I've always loved seeing shows at places like the Independent, Cafe Du Nord, and other smaller venues. I won't bother listing bars as I'm pretty open to most types of bars, but do love dives with pool tables (I'm a so so, streaky player at best).

Favorite things:

I haven't mentioned yet that I'm also very handy. I learned from my father long ago a man is helpless without tools. My tool collection is too large, but I am always buidling or fixing something for someone or around the house

Last read:

Hope this isn't geeky or dense, but I generally enjoy science related reads and often history. I like fiction too and may read some if my friends recommend and jabber on about it, but generally stick with what floats my boat.
