ABOUT HIM & WHO HE'S LOOKING FOR

"The sun is up, the sky is blue, it's beautiful and....."

Kudos to you if you recognized that line from The Beatle's "Dear Prudence" - and if you're a fan of music, (and music trivia) we just may be on to something here. And, after all, who doesn't like sunny blue skies?

Welcome to my little corner of the internet dating universe. Those of us who believe that fate should play a substantial role in meeting that certain someone would no doubt prefer to be anywhere else. However, the old accidental "shopping cart bump" routine at Sobeys hasn't been overly successful to this point (one would think the recent popularity of spicy cuisines would make an "encounter of the cart kind" near the cayenne rack quite possible) And, a recent appeal to St Nick for some "North Pole intervention" in my romantic affairs wasn't overly productive either, despite rewarding the jolly old elf with a nice bottle of California red in lieu of milk and cookies. So, here I am......

Winter has returned, but I'll take the sand between my toes over snow in my boots any day. Although, if you'd like to get me out on the trails in a pair of snowshoes, I'm definitely up for the challenge.

I don't think my likes and dislikes really matter a whole lot if there doesn't seem to be any of that vaunted "chemistry" floating in the air when first we meet. But, like all of us, I'm definitely looking for someone with similar interests to get things started.

While I do have eclectic and evolving tastes, in a nutshell I'm a big fan of the arts, outdoor activities, cooking and wine. If you feel, like me that the last two are NOT mutually exclusive, give yourself a check. Of the arts, music is tops - especially when witnessed live in smaller venues. But, for those of you who list art galleries as a hot spot or fun activity, no need to worry - it won't require any arm twisting on your part to get me to the Van Gogh exhibit. Now the opera might be another matter. (can you say "kicking and screaming"?) If you're a sports fan, in the interest of full disclosure, I should confess up front that I am a faithful Leafs, Raptors, Jays and Bills follower. (faithful = a fancy word for "long suffering") Which means that yes, I'm an optimist and "there's always tomorrow" is one of my favourite sporting catch phrases. (I know, at this point you're no doubt thinking "how can one guy support so many loser teams"?) Lastly, I do like to write, and while not quite a "grammar Nazi" when it comes to working with words - if you're not aware of at least three forms of "there", we may not be on the same page where language usage is concerned.

Oh, and I should point out that I do have what might be described as an off-beat yet wicked sense of humour. Hopefully, you're somewhat in the same vein, or at least have an appreciation for "quirky at times". By the way, on the subject of quirky, the "diving helmet cyclist" in the photo is not me, but if I could locate a vintage diving store somewhere in the local area, it could be.......

The people who make a living at being "experts" at writing these sorts of things would suggest that no profile is complete without including adjectives those you know might use to describe you. Unfortunately, at the moment, the only person in the immediate vicinity to seek out such an opinion from would be the family cat. Although she is quite adept at employing meowing sounds in her pursuit of liberty, sustenance and affection, she has yet to show any command of the English language. (kinda like Rob Ford) However, as far as I could make out with my "cat to English" dictionary, her unsolicited opinion would seem to be that "he's a thoughtful provider and cooks a great Thai peanut chicken curry ("not that I ever get any")

Movies, especially thought provoking ones (not really a smashemup, action thriller kind of guy). Dinner, in or out (I'm a self-described "accomplished, yet slightly messy home chef") Cuisine favourites would include Indian, Thai and Italian.

Anything lime (ie Key lime pie!) Sand. (I "collect" it) Breaking Bad. J Crew. Palm trees. Indigo Blue. Mad Men. The Saturday Globe and Mail (even if it takes until Tuesday to finish it)

Last read:

The Steve Jobs bio - a good story about yet another "quirky" captain of industry. Stephen King's epic "11/22/63" - great characterization, definitely not a "horror" tale. The Great Gatsby - rather disappointing - basically a glorified short story.
