Well, then, let's see: I write for a living, about which I feel both grateful and passionate; I read everything I possibly can; I enjoy great food and absolutely love to cook; and, while I spend a lot of time playing outside (climbing and surfing and cycling and exploring), I also own an iron and a some decent shirts and like to think I clean up sufficiently to be introduced to friends and family without too terribly much anxiety.
In a partner, I'm looking for someone with whom to build the kind of relationship in which we can share a secret, knowing smile from across the room when we're at a party together.
I'd love to meet a woman who is compassionate, gracious, adventurous, involved in the world, possessed of great sense of humor- and someone who is perhaps slightly dorky and charmingly self-deprecating, isn't afraid to call me on my nonsense, and is confident and kind. Intelligence and inquisitiveness are very attractive qualities for me, and I'm drawn to self-possessed women who are deeply comfortable with themselves. Emotional availability and a willingness to explore and really talk about what's going on in a relationship honestly and openly are pretty essential, too, I've found- everything is easier, and better, in my experience, when both partners are comfortable communicating.
In my experience, a well-calibrated sense of the absurd; a capacity for laughter and silliness; and a spark of spontaneity all go far in allowing a relationship to flourish and evolve- I mean, yeah, certainly, this whole love thing is serious stuff and all, but maintaining space for sheer pleasure and simple joys is real important, too. (And, not to be superficial, but I find women in glasses to be extremely sexy.)
(I'm realizing I'm using a whole bunch of semi-colons here. Yegads.)
What else? Ah, I'm also into gardening, wine, music (all kinds, really, but Andrew Bird, Neal Halstead, Jolie Holland, Spiritualized, Son Volt, and Chet Baker have been on heavy rotation recently), conversation over Sunday dinner with good friends, learning from my partner, playing Scrabble, exploring the Central Coast, amazing impromptu weekend trips with plenty of easy laughter and no specific destination in mind, international travel... I'm a non-dogmatic vegetarian, I don't watch much television, I dote on my house plants, I roast my own coffee, and I'm nerdy enough about words to think about the whole “which versus that” debate somewhat regularly. I think regularly making time to be still is one of the best investments one can make, and I truly appreciate thoughtfulness.
The world is a remarkable place, and life, given half a chance, is pretty remarkably wonderful, and nourishing. I hope to find someone who is genuinely excited about exploring and experiencing the whole of it together- and I'd love to hear from you, if you're so inclined...
Warm regards- and thanks for reading!
