You might infer from the length of this writing that I’m totally self-absorbed. I am just putting myself out there, as I’m looking for a til-the-grave relationship. Why be mysterious and guarded? There will still be much to discover, I assure you.
In general, I like to kick life's arse.
Professionally:
The medical sciences have fascinated me since my first college neuroscience class. I bucked med school though, and went on a little odyssey. I taught 8th grade science in Spanish Harlem for two years and discovered that paychecks were important, but that I would nevertheless envy non-profit workers for the rest of my days. I worked in biotech and learned that intangible molecules, however powerful, kinda bore me. (And then!) I sold a surgical navigation system that enabled brain surgeons to yank out tumors through the nose instead of boring a massive hole thru the skull; this saved patients a two-week hospital stay—and got me hooked on medical devices. Then I sold skin for burn patients and fell deeper in love with the industry. I left sales and went into marketing / product development / sales training for a lil’ orthopedic trauma company about two years ago. We make some pretty awesome stuff that I become more proud of every day. I am getting an MBA, part-time, at UCLA. It kicks my butt 40 weeks a year, but I love it. Learning a ton, and my classmates are exceptionally bright, good people. Long-term, I will be a sales and marketing exec working with game-changing technologies in the medical device arena.
Physically:
I have a presence in any room. I am tall, strong, fit. My eyebrows will blow your mind.
Socially:
My undergrad pals are spread out around the country; my high school pals are mostly in OC. So until I went back to school, my LA crew was tiny. Now it’s huge, which keeps things really fresh. I’m not a big club guy. I prefer hanging out with small groups of people, having good convo and lots of laughs. I am a real smartass and enjoy sharing my time with other smartasses. If you don’t dig sarcasm, hit the back button.
My Serious Hobby:
I’m a rock junkie. (Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Beasties, all things Jack White, Shins, Arcade Fire, LCD SS, the Doors, Nirvana, Mumford, Bon Iver… You get the idea: I like white guys with guitars). I go to tons of shows. When you and I are 45 and you tell me you think we’re too old to go to Coachella again … grounds for divorce! ;)
Frivolous Hobbies:
Vacation SCUBA. Reading literature, but it’s the last thing I want to do now with all the biz school reading. Vandy Sports. NY Mets. (But I spend a lot more time being an athlete than I do watching them). Oh, and I have rhythm. Jimmy can dance. Preferably to early 90s hip hop.
Athletically:
Played football in HS. I was an offensive guard, which means you’ll be safe with me. 4 years ago, I became triathlon obsessed. A back injury put me in the ER though and forced me to take a couple years off to heal. So now I just do the swim and the bike—no mo’ runnin. I am a “Half-Ironman Aquabiker” (1.2 mile swim 56 mile bike). Raced in Portland this summer. Next summer is TBD. Crossing the finish line is perfect elation—beyond any pleasure I have ever known. (A two-encore Pearl Jam show is a potential exception).
YOU:
You’re smart. Attractive. Kind. Down to earth. Educated, or at least, very inquisitive. You don’t expect perfection because lord knows I'm not! You’re busy and independent. (If you tend to sit at home pining for your boyfriends, hit the back button! I’m awfully busy, but will make time when I meet the right girl).
Good Luck!
