I was born and raised in Miami, Fla., where I consumed more black beans than beer and smoked more cigars than sausages. My first taste of the Midwest came when I was a journalism student in Missouri. After graduating, I spent just under a year back in Miami before moving to Madison, Wisconsin. Two years went by, circumstances changed, and it was time to return to the Republic of Miami. I moved back in March of 2013. I've done snow, tornadoes and brats long enough. I'm really glad to have come back to sunshine, hurricanes and croquetas. I'm also looking forward to being very Cuban among other very Cuban people... and I enjoy reinforcing stereotypes by smoking cigars, dancing to salsa and playing dominoes. When I'm not being gratuitously Cuban, I enjoy good food, good wine, Scotch, movies, reading, writing and photography. Lots of people say they're into photography, but I was the president of my high school photography club, so you know I'm legit (and also extremely cool and not nerdy at all). My work background is a mix of journalism, democracy promotion, marketing and PR. I came back to Miami, in part, for a job that has me doing journalism full-time. I'm enjoying being a professional storyteller. Things that maybe you would also like to know: -- I make good Cuban coffee. I am an espumita master. -- I think cooking is great, especially when it's for other people. There aren't many things more gratifying than seeing people enjoy food I made. I like baked things, but don't bake much. -- I had knee surgery many years ago. I needed it as a result of a snowball fight injury. Again... reasons I am looking forward to being back in Miami. -- If I don't wear my glasses, I can't read anything. I won't recognize people's faces from more than a couple of feet away. I will walk into things. -- I hold doors open for people in general, not just women. It's just the nice thing, I guess. I'm an open book, so do feel free to get in touch and ask me to fill in blanks. I figure that's better than letting this become a rant. Anybody with a sense of humor is great. That doesn't mean you need to be funny (although that's also good). Just that I find it easier to connect with people who err on the side of laughing and know a joke when they hear one. I would go into more of what I'm looking for. But, really, I get along with and appreciate things about all kinds of people. I don't think it makes any sense for me to close myself off to one kind of person by saying I'm seeking out another. In fact, I think there's a lot to be said for relationships (be they romantic or otherwise) that lead you to things you might not otherwise have gone out of your way for. As long as we're comfortable and enjoying each other's company, things are off to a pretty good start.
