I'm originally from NJ and NY, and moved to LA in August 2012. I still consider myself new to SoCal. I am on this site because I'm serious about developing a long-lasting, meaningful relationship with someone special. A good tour guide would be helpful too. Maybe it's you? If you're intrigued after you read my verbose profile, send me an email.
So, I am looking for a woman who can make me think. I am inquisitive, a bit nerdy, curious, and a good listener. I do like having discussions about random topics and want to know more about things I don't understand or have had limited exposure to. While its true that I am looking for someone that shares some of my interests, I hope we would differ in some ways as well. At the same time, my ideal mate won't be passive and sit across from me at a dinner table with her arms crossed waiting for me to start the conversation. But my ideal mate doesn't necessarily have to be an extrovert either. Being shy is ok too.
My ideal partner will be able to share her stupid stories and embarrassing moments with me. She can't be serious all the time. If she can appreciate my dumb jokes (and sarcasm and smart-ass-ness) that would be even better. Things I find funny include the sitcoms on CBS, Modern Family, The Simpsons, slapstick comedies, and movies directed or written by Mel Brook, Judd Apatow, Harold Ramis, John Landis, Wes Anderson, etc. I religiously will DVR reruns of The Simpsons and Scrubs, as well as new episodes of the Daily Show and Colbert Report.
I can be serious too. NPR is my first preset on the car radio. I went to a live taping of Wait Wait Don't Tell Me last year. As for taste in music, it cannot be described: I like Jazz, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Neil Diamond, Bruno Mars, Maroon5, Rahul Sharma, JT, and lounge music. I love Spotify.
At the end of the week, you can easily convince me to go out for Happy Hour. On Fridays and weekends (maybe Thursdays too), I like having a good time on the town, but sometimes I want to just relax at home. I'll be honest... I'm not always a go, go, go person. But I can be easily convinced to try something new outdoors.
I really like going to the zoo and museums (natural history and art). I enjoy live theater, short films, readings, and used book stores.
Life is too short to complain about work. I LOVE my work. I'll tell you more about it later when you want to know more. But briefly, I'm a professor at a local university where I teach medical students. I also have an active research program and go looking for fossils in parts of Africa and India.
If I wasn't teaching or being a researcher, I would want to be a professional golfer, but I think I need a few more years of practice. I play tennis too, but need to find a regular hitting partner. I'm a big baseball fan (NY Mets) and football fan (NY Jets and Giants), both on TV and sitting in the stands.
I love to travel and explore. My most recent non-work trip overseas was for the World Cup in South Africa. My most recent work trips have taken me to Ethiopia, India, Puerto Rico, and Knoxville, TN. I am very sad to say that I've never been anywhere near South America, Australia, or Vietnam. Hopefully soon. But it would be more fun to go with someone else. Maybe that is you? My favorite activity overseas is adventurous eating and learning about everything "local".
I really do love the LA food scene. But it's not all about eating out for me. I do love to cook and I have plans to take some advanced cooking lessons soon.
Finally, I'm a terrible dancer but not afraid of the dance floor at a wedding.
