I'm originally from Louisiana, but I've been living in or close to New York for nine years. Many aspects of southern life and culture still appeal to me, but the energy and cosmopolitanism of New York are also alluring.
I would describe myself as happy, balanced and engaged. I'm curious about the world around me and I like to explore it. I try to be present and enjoy life as it unfolds.
I work in the field of international relations. I like the endless opportunities to learn about the world and see things from different perspectives.
I enjoy talking about books, magazines, music, aesthetics and esoteric ideas. I also like to talk about everyday things. Seeing something ordinary in a new light can be revolutionary.
Life is short. If am craving something--food, an experience--I indulge. In general, though, I try to eat healthy food and treat my body well. I like to cook.
I love being in nature and often seek contact with it. I like to take long walks, run, swim, ski and play tennis.
I love live music, especially Brazilian, African, Latin, indie rock, classical, soul, R&B and New Orleans brass bands, among others. Favorites include Jorge Ben Jor, Os Mutantes, Gilberto Gil, Tim Maia, Kermit Ruffins, Chris Kenner, the Kinks, the Zombies, Fela Kuti, Hall and Oates, Prince, Talking Heads, James Booker and Bill Withers.
I'm into the visual arts and like to see shows and openings.
I have been separated for two years (due to residency requirements--soon to be divorced) following a twelve-year relationship and have two young children whom I adore. My ex and I coordinate parenting amicably.
