I try to live life by the motto "Never be boring". A day without laughter is a day wasted, so I try to find the funny side of even the most dire predicaments (even if this sometimes leads to gallows humor.) I make sure to take care of my responsibilities but I don't take myself too seriously, and I find people who do to be a little tedious.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, went to college in Boston and have spent the majority of my professional life back here in NYC. I spent 13 years in finance and found it ultimately unfulfilling – money alone is not a good enough reason to get up in the morning. With that in mind I decided to do something that would make my life both an adventure and something of which I could be proud. My new job is pretty different and has led me to some “interesting” places (I just spent a year in Iraq), but I am infinitely happier now than I was behind a desk.
I love the ocean and everything involved with it; sailing, fishing, time spent at the beach, which are some of the many things that makes Martha’s Vineyard my “happy place”. I could never see myself living for an extended period of time in a place that isn’t at least somewhat coastal; the mountains are great but the ocean is in my blood.
I’ve been fortunate in my life to have been exposed to a broad range of people and experiences which allows me to be comfortable in almost any setting - sawdust covered bar in the afternoon, black tie event at night. Having said that my preference is for more casual settings – kicking back with friends at a beachfront cafe, outside at a wine bar, checking out a new restaurant in some hole-in-the-wall.
I am passionate about things that interest me and when I discover something new I tend to throw myself into it fully, reading and researching as much as possible to learn more.
Fierce loyalty to my friends and family is a defining characteristic for me– I’m the guy that people call at 3AM when they need help and don’t know what else to do. That loyalty is one of the things I will bring to any meaningful relationship and is something that people have valued highly.
It is impossible to sum up all the characteristics of the person I’m looking for but here are a few things I find important:
-Sense of humor (seems like an obvious one, but you would surprised at the number of humorless people out there)
-Likes to live a little on the wild side and who thinks that packing a bag on a moment's notice to set off for parts unknown is an adventure, not an obstacle
- Likes to spend time with friends just hanging out and laughing (I’m talking about the “falling-off-your-chair-beverage-coming-out-of-your-nose” laughing)
-Enjoys a lazy Sunday with brunch and couch time spent together
-Enjoys travelling the world and LIKES THE BEACH
-Can surprise me
That is far from an exhaustive list but for me part of the fun of meeting new people or starting a new relationship is finding new characteristics that I never knew were important until I met that person. What are yours?
