"I dust a bit. In addition, I am at the moment writing a lengthy indictment against our current century. When my brain begins to reel from my literary labors, I make the occasional cheese-dip."
Despite being new to online dating I can sense that I have some fastballs that have passed by me which puts me behind the count quickly: 1) I am a single father of a toddler Angel who is my raison d'etre in life, 2) I am an INTJ who is stubborn..though usually right ;) 3) I have a decent face for radio AND an incorrigible mouth that is well suited for the Op/Ed section, and 4) I am a Libertarian in an online world full of lovely liberal ladies.
Like Ignatius J. Reilly, I admit that I also do abhor most pop culture as I find it mostly vacuous and a waste of energy for myself. I have not watched most popular TV or listened to most pop music of the past 20 years or so but do enjoy my iPad to keep up on the current events and news while being able to enjoy my classic rock of the 70's on iTunes. However, I do think that TV sets are nice furniture pieces so I do enjoy staring at my sleek 3D TV that is mounted over the fireplace - excepting the fact that the only station watched these days is Sprout TV.
I also enjoy traveling. I found Dublin and Barcelona to be two nice "Old World" cities to explore - both walkable with a nice historic "feel" to them. My passion, however, are travels to islands that are distinguished by their warm oceans, white sandy beaches, great hiking trails and perhaps a nice golf course in the vicinity. My heart definitely lays somewhere in French Polynesia or in Hawaii. The Tahitian lagoons created by the sinking volcanoes are one of the world's great natural wonders - a natural infinity pool that you can walk out seemingly forever! Hawaii is simply magical because one gets all the good parts of Paradise while still being in America: My plan is to eventually move to Maui or the Big Island (or perhaps Oahu if I am later afraid of being too remote) once my precious Angel is old enough to go out on her own so any mate of mine in the future will have to deal with that as well..albeit there are at least a few years before that is even on the horizon.
The woman that I would eventually like to develop a relationship with will have to enjoy an active lifestyle as I do enjoy playing sports, hiking, running and general exploring. She would also be interested and conversant in the current events that really move our world - if you are truly interested in the Kardashians or always staring at your FB page then I am definitely not the man for you. A woman who is confident enough to be pursuing her own career - it need not be world-changing so long as it is a productive one - is clearly very attractive as well. In addition, the woman who is organized and able to live in a clean home environment is important - I like to live fairly neat (not obsessively) and so would not change that at this stage of my adult life. Finally, the woman would need to have a fully operational and up-to-date DMV registered car...in this town, this could obviously be a deal-breaker.
Most people probably consider themselves to be blessed with above-avg intelligence and above-avg wit: If you are truly witty and intelligent then, well, that would indeed be above-avg and certainly wonderful. However, if you are able to cook up a fantastic Italian meal then I would be able to overlook any slight shortcomings in the wit department.
Lastly, in all seriousness, I have two final points. The first is that if you are taking prescribed medication for bipolar disorder or depression then please pass my profile: I respect those very serious conditions but have dealt with a full lifetime's worth of stress and angst over them and do not have the capability to add to those experiences. Secondly, I love my daughter and will be active in her life forever and thus will need someone who is cognizant and respectful of that.
Good luck to everyone out there...
