Enjoying the benefits of having lived long enough to appreciate and understand the pleasures and pitfalls of life and sharing those experiences with a woman, for me, has to be the basis of a relationship. Be it a simple friendship, or something that could grow into a serious commitment, her having some wisdom, the inevitable battle scars and evidence of surviving it all, while retaining a zest for living show me that a person has character and durability. While I know alot of people, it's my nature to have a smaller group of closer friends that can be trusted.
One of my favorite quotes is from John Wayne's last film.
“I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them."
- J.B Books in The Shootist 1976, directed by Don Siegel
