I grew up as the eldest of three (i have a younger brother and a younger sister) moving around every few years, so i was fortunate enough to live in a variety of places (including overseas) and visit different parts of the world that i more than likely wouldn't have seen otherwise! Admittedly, it didn't always seem like a great idea to me at the time but looking back i'm very thankful to have been exposed to the world around us. I went to Mary Washington College (a small public liberal arts school in Virginia) and studied Geography and Computer Science. Despite frantic speculation on the part of my friends that i would be inevitably destined to work for mapquest, I worked in the real world for a little while writing computer software. Having a "real job" certainly had its high points but after about a year I decided to join the Navy and go to flight school. So one day i found myself moving to the Florida panhandle (on a few days notice - funny story) and spent the next two years running around the gulf coast and learning to fly. Eventually i made my way out to San Diego a couple of years ago and now get to fly and teach for a living. I'm incredibly thankful to have the luck to really enjoy my occupation while hopefully helping make some small difference in the world. No job is perfect, but we all spend too much time and energy at work to spend it on something that you don't truly enjoy. And San Diego has been an incredible place to live, although i think that i have just scratched the surface on the wonderful things to see and do both here and on the west coast in general. I'm a little bit skeptical about trying match.com, but on the other hand it seems like more and more of my friends have had decent experiences. So here goes nothing. I enjoy being active, spending time outdoors or on the water (swimming, sailing, or surfing), playing sports (soccer, basketball, etc.), and traveling. I went skiing for the first two times this past winter and really enjoyed it (fell a lot but miraculously escaped injury), started learning more about photography recently, and ran my first marathon last fall. I'm looking for someone who is genuine, has a great sense of humor, an interest in getting out and seeing the world (either close to home or far and wide), and a generally positive outlook on life.
