So this is where I’m supposed to convince you that I’m awesome in 500 words or less. It feels oddly narcissistic to write about myself, but I suppose everyone else on here had to do it too, so here’s my best attempt…complete with footnotes (why not?).
In a nutshell, I’m a unique guy and think I possess a lot of qualities that a potential match would hopefully value. For starters, I have a PhD in finance and have been blessed to parlay my passion for teaching and penchant for numbers into successful careers as both a professor and an entrepreneur. Before you rush to judgment, however, I think you’ll find that I’m nothing like any of the stereotypes the preceding sentence might have conjured. I’m a down-to-earth guy who probably values leisure and has as much fun as anyone I know. I don’t take my work or myself too seriously, and I won’t bore you to death talking about nerdy stuff…unless you’re into that sort of thing. :)
I love to exercise and play sports, and I work pretty hard to keep myself in excellent shape.* I’m quick with a smile or a joke and have a witty, sarcastic sense of humor. I get along well with pretty much everyone, make friends quickly, and am comfortable in just about any social setting. I try to see the good in everyone and to find the silver lining in even the gloomiest of situations.
I moved to Atlanta from a small college town about 6 months ago, and so far I love it here. I have friends who enjoy hitting up the bar scene, but I’ve found that it’s a better environment for meeting 22-year-olds who live with their parents than for meeting the kind of person I would actually want to date.** It’s surprising, and a tad perplexing, that in a such a large city where it’s so easy to meet people, it can still be a challenge to find the “right” kind of person. Here’s hoping that giving online dating a try might make that search a little easier…
As for what I’m looking for in a date, I could probably write a novella on the subject, but what’s the point? Chemistry isn’t something you can order off a menu. For the purposes of sparking a general interest here, a pretty smile, at least one picture without sunglasses that was taken within the past decade, and a profile that demonstrates at least an elementary grasp of the English language is a good start.***
A Few Specific Things I Value:
1. I love to play all manners of sports and games. If you have a competitive streak and can present a good challenge in anything from tennis to Words with Friends, consider me intrigued.
2. I travel A LOT (yeah, yeah, I know—everyone says that). I usually take anywhere from 12 to 20 trips a year, so it’d be great to meet someone who has a similar passion and the freedom to join in the fun.
3. While it’s not a deal-breaker, I’d prefer to meet someone who lives inside the perimeter, or close to it.
*You’ll have to take my word for it. I suppose I could snap a shirtless pic in the bathroom mirror, but then I also suppose that would make me a tool.
**I apologize to any 22-year-olds whom I may have offended…and their parents.
***I find intelligence to be a huge turn-on, and for better or worse, punctuation, grammar and vocabulary are among the only ways to get a feel for it on here.
