A little blown off-course, trying to find my way and figure life out. Maybe a little edgy, with a dry, off-beat, irreverent sense of humor. Like the outdoors (woods, trails, mountains, lakes, rivers etc). Into running, cycling, swimming, but also like libraries and bookstores. Play a little tennis and squash, occasional "social" golf. A perennial intermediate skier, I love skiing (Alta is my favorite) and apres ski. Have tried white-water kayaking and can't wait to do more; also would love to learn to surf. Enjoy good food and wine (and beer) and love cooking -- and sharing (I make the best creme brulee). Love to grill outside (even in the snow). Like a wide variety of music (from classical to jazz to outlaw country to punk to eighties to more recent "alternative"/WFUV-fare) and love to see live music. Love dogs, don't know so much about cats. Moderately well-traveled (highlights over the years are Costa Rica (two months), Ecuador (six weeks), Spain (seven months), Scotland (one year) and Italy (about a month cumulatively) but have not done much in recent years -- really want to start traveling again (list includes more Italy, more Spain, France, Austria/Germany, Turkey, Argentina, Chile, Peru and more of the American West). I also enjoy road-trips, even just day-trips to the Hudson Valley or other places nearby. I enjoy a small circle of close friends and spending time with my two young sons. As for what I find appealing in a lady, a few loose guidelines (forewarned is forearmed), NOT a checklist of non-negotiables: Sophisticated, but a little bit girl-next-door-ish. Easy-going and down-to-earth, but engaged and ready for challenges. Neither too cerebral nor anti-intellectual. Varied interests (art, music, sports/outdoors). Moderately to very well traveled. Appreciates nice things, but is not too hung up on material. No extreme Republicans, Democrats, strict religious types or atheists. Moderately to very athletic/sportive and comfortable with the outdoors (rugged is good, especially if you do not look TOO rugged). I care about looks -- fit, lean, trim, nice-looking, stylish and put together, but not prissy or dolled-up (the less make-up and hair product, the better - I like clean, simple pretty). I prefer firm and perky to big and bountiful. A little bohemian/crunchy probably works better than a little bit frilly/fancy. No matter how good you look dressed up for a benefit, you have to look great with minimal make up, jeans and a sweatshirt. Stories to tell, maybe even a bit of patina. Happy going to a fancy benefit/party, taking in a random cultural event, attending a cocktail/dinner party with good friends, chatting over a quiet dinner or relaxing at home. As far as type of relationship, I am dating because I can. I have marriage experience, which cuts both ways. I do not consider myself a "player," but I am not driven (by a fear of being alone or a sense of duty) to cling to someone. I am happy to take one day at a time, make a new friend, do something casually or meet "The One," but I am in no hurry.
