ABOUT HIM & WHO HE'S LOOKING FOR

Thank you for choosing to review my profile. I find that I am happiest in a healthy and committed relationship, so here I am.
I’ll start with what I consider to be my most important features: I am a ‘nice guy’, and put effort into health and fitness.
Secondarily, I am intelligent, well and diversely educated; athletic and fit; an appreciation for nature and outdoor activities; spend a major portion of my time in volunteering, and in Adult Continuous Learning (OmniLore Organization); energetic and adventurous, both intellectually and physically; successful in my career, though now retired; put effort into integrity, but do not subscribe to religious dogma; very open and affectionate. Although I do appreciate ‘entertainment’, I am more of a participant than a spectator; I would rather ‘do’ than ‘watch’.
What I consider to be of lesser importance (though not non-existent): overt materialism, sophistication, fashion, luxury.
Still there?
I came from east Pennsylvania 35 years ago to SoCal. I was in a 3-year Aerospace Management Intern Program -f Naval Command in Washington DC. My first 6-month assignment was in SoCal, (quickly decided not to leave), and completed my internship at Lockheed Aircraft - Burbank, Pt Hueneme Shipyard, and General Dynamics Missile Plant - Pomona. I then spent 30-some years as a Program Manager in the GPS Program - Los Angeles Air Force Base – El Segundo. I think of myself MUCH more as a manager than as an engineer, and I am pleased to have spent the majority of my career in something that does not go ‘boom’.
I was also a Naval Officer, 12 years as a Reservist. I spent two-week assignments: Naval Headquarters Washington DC, aboard an aircraft carrier, at ‘TopGun’ fighter pilot facility - Miramar Naval Air Base, and other interesting assignments.
I was a high school teacher in Philadelphia for 6 years, but decided not to spend my life in a classroom. I received a National Science Foundation Grant to help develop a non-quantitative course in high school physics - Rensselaer University, NY. After that summer program, I returned to Philadelphia and obtained an engineering degree.
I have one son, attending college in Illinois, studying Robotics; thus I don’t see him often. Fatherhood was the happiest time of my life; it just went by too quickly. I was doing frequent business travel overseas, but when he began to toddle, I downsized my career a bit to become a dedicated father. Empty Nest. I now live alone, in the same house I’ve owned in Manhattan Beach for the past 20-some years. I don’t particularly enjoy living alone, but that’s my present situation; perhaps temporarily, but, that might be up for you to perhaps alter.
Recently retired, I resisted the common path to return as a paid consultant, ie to collect both salary and retirement annuity. I’ve chosen to spend time in several organizations as a volunteer, and in Adult Continuous Learning.
At home, I play flute and study music theory. Do you play an instrument? I have an antique pool table, do my own gardening, a garage full of tools for crafts projects (wood, tile, shells), cooking, reading, etc.
Away from home, I belong to several organizations: OmniLore (coordinator), Sierra Club (trip leader), South Bay Botanical Garden (volunteer), CERT (board member), South Bay Ski Club. Outdoors I enjoy: hiking, tennis, beach volleyball, skiing, kayaking, more.
About you.
What are some dating activities you prefer? I suggest hiking, UCLA Lecture Series, cooking together; later kayak Newport Bay, take dance lessons; eventually, local, national, and then international travel. Do you play a musical instrument?
What is your approach to staying healthy and fit?
What are your goals and style of travel?
Anything remaining on your Bucket List?
