ABOUT HER & WHO SHE'S LOOKING FOR

Me:

I was the only person in my law school dormitory to move in my first day with my own slow cooker and full set of bakeware. Now that I'm a lawyer, you can gauge how good or bad my day went depending upon the number of trays of cookies I've baked that evening; so you'd have to be ok with eating peanut butter chocolate chip cookies for dinner once in a blue moon.

I used to be in better shape, but one day I woke up and realized how much I missed McDonald's ice cream cones. That being said, I still try to stay fit, although I haven't yet mastered the art of playing well with others during yoga class and for reasons that escape logic, I continue to harbor the false hope that dressing like Serena Williams will give me both her physique and her first serve.

I love my parents but would totally advocate for adult adoption provided that Cliff Huxtable and Ina Garten were the intended couple. Even so, family is important to me. I once helped my sister move out of her 22nd floor apartment during a power outage in the middle of a mid-July D.C. heat wave. And although I maintain a healthy skepticism, I usually agree to drive my mother to her bi-annual card reader appointment, provided she gets tips so I can play the office Super Bowl pool come February.

Reading Bellow and Roth had a big impact on me and made me want to be a well-informed and engaged human being. While I don't have as much free time as I used to, I still try to keep my mind full and sharp. I am continually finding creative ways to discreetly read the latest New Yorker during office meetings and legal seminars. And I'm open to suggestions on how to finish my crossword puzzles in bed without the ink from the paper and/or pen bleeding all over my bed spread.

You:

You "found yourself" years ago. You can go toe to toe with my father when it comes to placing current events in a historical context. And sometimes in my stead you'll listen to my sister talk on the phone, even if you're multi-tasking and have the basketball game on in the background.

Regardless of your political leanings, you scream at the tv with me when Chris Matthews refuses to shut up and let his guests talk. And though its been years, you still have difficultly coming to terms with the fact that CJ Craigg and Sam Seaborn are not real people that you're going to meet some day.

You convince me to jump in the car for an impromptu trip to Philly just because its Sunday and you have a hankering for those yummy pretzels that the Amish pedal at Reading Market. And while you value our time together, you appreciate that I have mastered the art of sparing the ones I love. While you are out during a a weekday grabbing a drink with a friend, I pretend to do work at home when in actuality, I'm binging on a Bravo Real Housewives marathon so you don't have to be subjected to it when you get home. And you don't call me out when I pretend to be watching Charlie Rose when you walk in the door.

For fun:

I've spent years trying to master Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on my harmonica. So close...I also do these funky little ink drawings in the vein of Sol Lewitt. Finally watching that documentary about the real horse whisperer guy on my Netflix queue

Favorite hot spots:

This Cuban place above a night club near Newark Airport that serves transcendant yucca-lobster fritters. I used to have a membership to the The New York City Transit Museum. And I could lose myself for hours (literally/figuratively) at Park Guell.

Favorite things:

I have an unhealthy affinity for Coke Zero and movies with talking animals (I might have paid to see "Babe: Pig in the City"). LIstening to Joni Mitchell's "Blue" while driving nowhere in particular. Following the adventures of my niece via ichat.

Last read:

Its a bit meta, but the New York Times Book Review (I have to keep my reading list up to date, even if I don't always get to it). And my driver's license. In my defense, the line to get through security at the airport was moving at a snail's pace.

For a once shy kid, I now have a preternatural ability to walk into a courtroom and feign confidence in things I know nothing about. But I like to think I use my powers for the forces of good (depending upon the day of the week of course).

My law school years cultivated a skill set that beyond learning the law, consisted of eating meals in Manhattan for under $5 and learning which movie theaters look the other way when you "jump" theaters for a double feature.
