I am generally a quiet and serious person unless I am with close friends or family, with whom I feel comfortable getting a little goofy! I prefer spending time with a one or a few other people rather than a large group. I am looking for someone similar, who shares some of my interests, but who also can expand my horizons. Taking care of myself (eating well, exercising often) and staying healthy are very important to me, and should be to my partner as well. I have been figure skating for about 15 years, but I am currently taking a break to try other things. Over the summer I started doing hot yoga, and now I'm taking a hip hop dance class. I haven't danced since high school, so it's been interesting! Usually, I run a little, too. I also teach skating lessons to kids on Saturdays, and I volunteer in the local figure skating community. I also had the opportunity this summer to volunteer at a kids summer program for local food and agriculture. I cook as much as I can, which is easier said than done. I'm not a vegetarian (love a good steak) but I eat vegetarian about 1/2 the time. I have some hipster tendencies - I've been known to home brew (ask me where I worked before grad school) and wear the occasional denim shirt, but I'm not into the music scene. I love spending time with my family. I have 3 sisters and we're all very close (I live with one of them). I just got back from an awesome ski trip to Colorado with my dad and one of my sisters. I wish we had skiing like that in Minnesota! I probably have about 2.5 years left of grad school, but with a PhD, you never know. My research is on the relationships between food, mood, and stress. I have a background in nutrition, so it's nice to combine that with cutting-edge food science research.
