ABOUT HER & WHO SHE'S LOOKING FOR

Know how to build a good fire? Find Coen Brothers movies laugh-out-loud funny, and appreciate the brilliance of Banksy? Can you bring it at trivia night? Have a "Heck yeah, let's do it!" spirit?

I'm drawn to smart and smart-ass. I spend a lot of waking hours doing artsy things: movies, theater, music festivals, art walks, museums. I'm equally drawn to outdoor activities; snowshoeing, hiking, kayaking, and camping top my list for fresh air fun. It would be great to connect with someone else who also has his own gear, so it's easy to hit the trail/water any time. I have a motorcycle helmet that's been gathering dust for awhile - but I'd brush it off for the right ride.

Farm stands make me happy. Converted most of my lawn to edibles and a wildflower meadow a few yrs back - so much better! Yet while the rural outdoors is a real magnet for me, I'm often in NYC for work or play.

I’ve been chipping away at a plan to segment hike the M-M trail. I keep getting distracted by other fun stuff.

Extra points if you can dance or even want to learn. I'm crazy for swing, just signed up for a flamenco class, and know my way around two-step, salsa, and other styles. But it's certainly no deal breaker if that's not your thing.

I enjoy assertive, capable, independent people: my friends are such, and my best romantic matches, as well. A lot of my pals are teachers, writers, brewers, and techies. And rabble rousers.

I'm a DIY-type whose motto is, "How hard can it be?" Of course the answer is often, "A lot harder than you thought," but that doesn't seem to deter me much.

My pov is from far to the left, in some neighborhood where greens and anarchists hang out. Unlike with a seesaw, someone way on the other side won't balance me out nicely. If you see the world through red-state-colored glasses, we're not gonna click.

I f**** love science (yeah, it's a reference, but it's also true), and the Overpass Light Brigade.

Geographically speaking, I'm looking to connect locally, and much more likely to include north and west of me (southern VT, the Berkshires) in my definition of that, than points east and south.

Edgy, quirky indie films speak to me, but I never miss a chance to watch Slap Shot. Withnail I, Local Hero, American Beauty, Little Miss Sunshine, Life is Beautiful, Big Night, Beasts of the Southern Wild, The Pledge, The Guard, Breaking the Waves and The Big Lebowski are a few of very many faves. I heart Steve Coogan, Drunk Uncle, @lizzwinstead and the Convos with My 2 Yr Old vids (which are hilarious and have great production values, and which you certainly don't need to be a parent to enjoy - they're really not about that).

Umami is my favorite flavor, cardamom my favorite spice. B'fast at an unpretentious diner? Yes, please. Artisanal and locavore? I’m down with that. Veg/vegan? Fine by me - I go that way myself often, though I personally can't see going thru life without good cheese.

A leisurely start on a Sunday morning listening to The Back Porch on WRSI gives me a full body smile. Gogol Bordello blew my mind at the last Green River Festival. Fan of punk, ska, jump blues, big band, second line, Irish pub music, Big Sandy, Fred Eaglesmith, Cake, Rebel Diaz, Dr. Westchesterson, Ray LaMontagne, Young @ Heart Chorus, Public Enemy, Ozomatli, Joe Jackson, Lucinda Williams, Louis Prima, Stéphane Grappelli, Springsteen. Bluegrass, honky tonk, Tejano, zydeco...pretty much anything you'd lump into the Americana/roots wheelhouse. But you betcha I’ll put on high heels and dress-up clothes and go to the symphony - or even the opera! Try me.

Contact me pronto if you're game for a full moon snowshoe trek, you want to debate the merits of Inside Llewyn Davis, you'd sooner poke a white-hot shard of glass in your eye than take a Carnival cruise, or can make me laugh with a well-timed "that's what she said" joke.
