“I try to fit the pieces together, But perfection is my enemy, And on my own, I'm so clumsy, But on Your shoulders I can see, I'm free to be me”
In the process of life, God has been shaping and changing me. He has taken me from a person who constantly thought about what I could do for myself, to someone that thinks of others. He is the reason that I am in Alaska. God led me here so I could find Him and be comfortable with who I am in Him.
“A girl ought to have a sense of humor. That's one thing you really need for sure”
I teach sixth grade, and I enjoy working with them. However, working with sixth graders has slightly influenced my sense of humor. Case in point: student says to me, “Guess what!” My instant reply was, “Chicken butt.” To which she replied, “Guess who! Chicken poo! Guess why! Chicken pot pie!” And all I could do was laugh, a good hearty belly laugh, and then I thought, “How awesome was that?”
“We are family. ?I got all my sisters with me. ?We are family”
Twice a year I make a trip back home, well, to my other home-Michigan. I’ve been in Alaska for 8 years. While I love my time here with my friends and “family,” I love my time in Michigan, as I get to spend time with and spoil my nieces and nephews!! It is a great Christmas gift for my family and myself to be able to spend Christmas there! Being a teacher, I get to spend time during the summer with my family as well. Going to the zoo, time at the pool, exercising, and going to the movies are some of the things the family does together!
“We are volunteers of America”
Seven years ago I began volunteering in the youth ministry at my church. Little did I know on that first evening, that group of 6 sixth grade girls would steal my heart. I loved the years I had with them, getting to know them, watching them grow, attending events in their lives, acting like a fool, being convicted by their faith and their walk, providing an example of a life given to Jesus, watching them graduate and go off to college. I’ve since taken a year off, but CANNOT wait to begin again! Two Sunday’s a month I volunteer for two worship teams. I love music and enjoy the opportunity to display the slides for the congregation to sing along.
“To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn) There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn) And a time to every purpose, under Heaven. A time to build up,a time to break down, A time to dance, a time to mourn, A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together.”
Music-it seems as if there is always a song for the moment. It doesn’t matter if you’re up, “Celebrate good times come on!” If you’re feeling down, “Give me Jesus, Give me Jesus.” Or anywhere in between, there is a song for the moment.
“On the road again. Goin' places that I've never been. ?Seein' things that I may never see again.??And I can't wait to get on the road again.”
I am up for adventure and trying new things. Cross-country skiing, 5K races, triathlons, visiting new countries like Ireland and Rwanda (Africa), are some things I’ve tried.
