ABOUT HER & WHO SHE'S LOOKING FOR

Hi. Hello. How do people start these things?.... Well, how about - thanks for checking out my profile!

I just realized I haven't updated my profile in about a year; and some things have changed. (Mainly - I no longer live in New England. Oops!)

Like most people, I am a mash-up of life experiences, competing desires, multiple interests, some unrealized goals and a handful of prejudices. Come on - we all have them, even if we don't want to :) I also have a pretty strong thread of optimism in my view of the world, an occasional tendency to overanalyze multiple sides of an issue, and a low tolerance for intolerant people.

I would call myself a little bit of a nerd, who likes other nerds. By that I mean, I like people who are curious about the world. I'm curious about a lot of things in general: how things work, how people think, why the media seems to have an obsession with the Kardashians. But have some of the more traditional nerdy interests - I enjoy most Joss Whedon creations, like to play Scrabble, listen to Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, and enjoy linguistic arguments. My sense of humor ranges from sincere silliness to dark sarcasm.

I enjoy listening to music in just about every genre you can think of (maybe the exception is heavy metal); I'm thinking about learning to make music again, something that's been dormant since high school choir. I also like outdoor exploration - biking around town, getting lost in an interesting neighborhood, hiking in the woods. And I like travel - though I think and read about it more than I get do it. I often spend my limited time off visiting various members of my family, who inconveniently live all over the country. Lucky for them, I like visiting them!

I guess I've named 75% of the "common lists of interests" - what did I miss? Basically, I'll try just about anything once. And I'd like to meet people who have the same mindset - excited to try new things without worrying about doing things perfectly, interested in the wider world, all of that. (By the way, I'm not opposed to hanging out, watching TV, doing nothing - but I don't think I need to seek it out, since it will happen without much effort.) I'm not too worried about finding "the ideal mate" here and now, but in getting to know people and seeing where things lead.

If you've read this far and are still interested, I hope you'll send me a wink or an email!

Favorite hot spots:

As of fall 2013, I'm pretty new to DC, but excited to explore! I like casual pubs as a "go-to" hot spot. For travel: I've been to a few countries (Greece, Holland, the UK), lots of places in the US, and have a very long bucket list of places to visit

Favorite things:

I already mentioned the Whedon universe. I miss Calvin and Hobbes. Enjoyed all the Simon Pegg movies. Am starting in on Dr. Who and Arrested Development. A few things on my current playlist: Melissa Etheridge, Yo Yo Ma, David Guetta, Shawn Mullins...

Last read:

Well, my grandma recently wrote a romance novel I felt I had to read. A little awkward. Also recently finished The Time Traveler's Wife. Currently, Ben Franklin's Autobiography, Per Petterson's To Siberia, and Bill Bryson's At Home (I like variety!)
