I'm all about a lot of things, which is making it difficult to choose a starting point! I'd say first off that what gives me the most fulfillment in life is the opportunity to meet people and develop meaningful relationships ("uncanny," you say!). I'm very committed to the people whom I choose to invite into my life and who are already a part of it. It's been a factor of both direct effort and luck that I've developed a large, yet close social sphere, an I'm always happy to meet new people. Another thing that I am very passionate about is music. I didnt grow up in a musical family, but at age twelve, my mother bought me a pennywhistle (looks like a recorder but can do a surprising array of things), and I took to it strongly. since then, the rooms of my apartment have become decked with instruments! i enjoy the challenge, and often play with friends, be it a casual get together, in an ensemble, or out at a pub. The last thing I'll mention here (because listing things in sets of three is aesthetically pleasing) is my affinity for learning. I have always been pretty curious to know how everything works, from things mechanical to the "gears" of social processes, especially when looking at cultural diversity an creativity. I enjoy really diving into a conversation/subject rather than perpetual small talk. On a related note, I've learned from experience that I form the best relationships with people who enjoy both fun banter as well as intellectual discussion--which is NOT to say it has to be in a serious manner. Some of the best conversations I've had with a friend were on road trips, where we breezed through topics in a casual way while enjoying the sights and the car stereo. As far as other things I like to do: jogging, collecting records, going to museums, attending festivals, playing board games, and more! It's not about the activity so much as the company and what we're making of it (i.e. a damn good time). What I'm doing with my life: I'm working on an M.A.PhD. program in ethnomusicology in anticipation of becoming a professor, and I'm also interested in working with some non-profits to help make music performance more available to a wider range of people.
