Hello! I would say I'm happy, optimistic, and...

In his own words

Hello! I would say I'm happy, optimistic, and comfortable with who I am. My morning’s ritual of grinding the beans just so, bringing the water to almost-a-boil, and the four minute wait for the French Press coffee to be ready is one of those very little things that makes life worth living. Keurig be dammed. Dark chocolate also makes the “little things” list. P.S. Thank you science for informing me that I can “get antioxidants” in such a delightfully delicious manner. I love puns and dorky jokes, so feel free to say whatever comes to mind; I’m pretty much guaranteed to think you're funny. I like to be polite and gentlemanly, despite working in DC where everyone always seems to be in a rush. I lived in California for five years and then moved to DC to be closer to my family; they're in NY. So far I've enjoyed living in VA and working in DC. I especially love all the cultural activities that we have available to us. If I'm spending a day on my own I'm probably reading, running, wandering around an exhibit, hiking, or planning a trip or outing. If I'm spending the day with others I'm probably going to events, restaurants, seeing a movie, or generally touring around. Every year I sorta have a new “thing" I try to learn about or do; sometimes it might be about rekindling old passions or maybe chasing after those dreams I had as a child. 2013 was about revisiting art history, going to museums, and reading a poem every day, 2014 was hiking and mountain biking, and 2015 will be fly fishing, alpine climbing, and sporting clays. First up, an ice-climbing trip in March...I'll add that it is ok if you're not into my hobbies but if you wanted to come along I'd be more than thrilled. I'm hoping to find a great woman to spend time with, get to know, and enjoy life with. Ultimately I'm looking for someone who can be a friend, partner, and companion; I'd really like someone to be solidly in my life to share this adventure of we call life. I'm not trying to over-think this too much because so often in life you find someone when you're not really looking. It would be much better to get to know you in person, so feel free to say hello.

Favorite hot spots

I'm more of a "let's do activities and enjoy the journey" guy than a "let's hang out at a destination because the destination is 'cool'" kind of guy. ...maybe ovens, because one second they're hot and the next, oh hey, cookies.

Favorite things

Time with family/friends, coffee/tea, a good book, classic films (Casablanca), tools, bicycles, day trips, Snoopy (the dog, as in the comic, particularly as a WWI ace), wool socks, maple syrup, chocolate, mountain views, Top Gear UK, Sherlock.

For fun

Museums, grabbing a bite to eat, Kennedy Center, mountain biking, horseback riding, trail running, road trips, books and reading, movies, coffee/cafes, sporting clays, blending things to make smoothies, car/motorcycle shows.

Last read

I'm usually reading a few books at any given time but right now I'm devoted to reading Don Quixote which is a phenomenal work of literature (funny too). A book on how to fly-fish with a Japanese style rod. Newspaper of choice is WSJ.

My school had only one D-1 sports team (sailing) and the mascot was a circus elephant. I suspect the true purpose of the school was to form a well-educated seafaring circus troupe.
