What’s Really On His Mind?

Believe it or not, men on first dates think about other things than sex. Find out what we mean!

By Tom Milnes

he’s sweet, smart and funny. But as complete as the girl of your dreams seems to be, you’re still not sure how she fits into your life. And why is that? Simple: You’ve never met her. Although you may have been emailing her for months, nothing makes a man ponder the possibilities more than the first off-line date.

Finally we agree to a time and place. We meet, we flirt. Guess what’s on my mind:

1. What a babe!
Whether a relationship begins online or off, basic attraction is a necessity for men and is their number one guide to how well a date is going.

2. Not even I could screw this one up.
Considering all the emails, phone calls and swapping of photos up to this point, most guys perceive the first off-line date as being on the same level as a second or third date.

3. I bet she’s a great kisser.
Sure it sounds cocky. But what’s a guy supposed to think when he finally meets his Internet fantasy in the real world?

4. Why haven’t I done this before?
Ah, the voice of experience simply waiting to be called upon. Just imagine it—a first date without the awkward hassles of initial introductions and pleasantries. Post your profile and try it yourself!

5. This is too good to be true.
It’s pessimistic, but men tend to prepare themselves for the worst. Even though she’s the same beauty that’s had you salivating for months, there’s always the possibility that something could go wrong.

6. I wonder if she knows I’m nervous.
Guys don’t let anxiety show, though. Or at least that’s what we like to believe.

7. Oh, yeah. She’s definitely a great kisser.
Gimme a break. Statistically, guys think of sex at least ten times a day.

8. Maybe we would be better off taking things slow.
Just because you’ve shared a little online passion with your date doesn’t mean you should expect it to play out in person. Passion in face-to-face relationships usually requires time to develop. By not rushing things, you may get just what you want.

9. Maybe I should have been a bit more honest.
Online a man is just as good as his stories but face-to-face his truths can seem closer to fiction.

10. Could she be The One?
As hard as it may be to believe, even the manliest of men can prove to be a dreamer at heart when faced with a pretty girl and a table for two.
