Dating Diary - One Woman’s Story Part 12

Will her affair with her band mate remain a secret…or will they get found out? Read on for the answer, and the surprising way our writer deals.

By Maggie Kim

fter drunkenly making out with her drummer James, Maggie missed her flight to LA to shoot her music video—and is suffering serious remorse over getting together with a guy who’s clearly got a girlfriend. This week, someone susses out their secret tryst… and the results aren’t pretty.

Sunday, 12:10 p.m.
My video director, Lisa, was ready to kill me for missing my flight, but fortunately I was able to get on the next one out. Flying while hung-over is possibly one of the worst things
She found out, and she left!
ever. I landed dehydrated and totally wiped out and had to go straight to a casting for extras for the video. Judging from the scads of people who came to the casting, it’s clear that everyone in LA will do anything to be famous. Yikes. We found a great burlesque dancer, though, who’ll look great in the video.

Monday, 9:45 a.m.
I’m staying at Leo’s place out here. He’s my West Coast gay best friend. He totally warned me against emailing James after I told him what went down. But I couldn’t help it. I sent off an email, asking him how he was feeling and what he was thinking about our whole situation. It made me feel better to send it, but now I’m a little worried. Leo joked, “I bet his girlfriend reads it and the s*** hits the fan.” I didn’t find that very funny, and I’m really hoping that doesn’t happen. Because that would be bad. Very bad.

Tuesday, 11:17 p.m.
I think Leo jinxed me. I went out to dinner last night with my ex, Kyle, who’s a big TV producer now. He’s been living out here for the past few years, and we broke up soon after he moved. But we’re friends. He can always make me laugh and usually has good dating advice for me. I filled him in on the James situation and he just shook his head, telling me I probably shouldn’t be hooking up with band mates, especially when they already have girlfriends. No kidding. Anyway, Kyle invited me back to his apartment to show me his new electric guitar. While I played him a few of my new tunes, I got a phone call from James.

“Where are you?” James said. “Are you home?”

“Um, no, James, I’m in LA,” I said. “Where are you?”

So, I guess that means it’s over between us.
“Maggie, she found out,” James said. “She read the email, she knows everything and now she’s left.”

James proceeded to break down on the phone, and I just didn’t know what to do. I mean, I’m on the other side of the country, and I didn’t even know what to say. At least if I were in New York I could have met up with him, although I don’t know what that would have accomplished. James got off the phone saying, “I’ve got to win her back. No matter what.”

My stomach dropped. So, I guess that means it’s over between us. Did I ever mean anything to him? Kyle tried to console me as best as he could and then drove me home.

Wednesday, 1:25 p.m.
I tried calling James today to see what happened, but he’s not taking my calls. I left a voicemail and text to make sure he was O.K. and got this text in return. “Stop contacting me and find a new drummer. I never want to hear from you again.” What?! I’m torn between being devastated and seriously pissed. I mean, it’s not like I forced him to kiss me! He was there just as much as I was, and now it’s like he’s blaming me for the whole thing.

What am I going to tell the band? This is all such a bad dream. I don’t know what to do. Well, one thing I know I’m doing. James is getting an email lashing from me. Watch out!
