Years ago I decided I'd had enough of the...

In his own words

Years ago I decided I'd had enough of the phoniness and backbiting of the Milan to Paris male modeling community, so I gave it all up. (Okay. I was never a male model. But I totally could have been if I wanted to…yeah, you’re right. Probably not.) So here's the necessary biography portion. I hope I’m skilled enough to find a way to make it entertaining while maintaining detached mystery. (Though, from talking to females on Match, I understand that the most effective thing a guy can do on here is send a woman an email like, “your HOT! whats up” Because nothing embodies seduction like an illiterate semi-text.) I was blessed to grow up in a large, hilarious, and sweet family in the Midwest. But, as much as I loved them, I needed to explore. I went to college in New England and then decided to try the other coast and Los Angeles. Then, after 14 years, Los Angeles and I decided to end our relationship and go our separate ways: the magic was gone. Meanwhile, I met Nashville while visiting. (At the end, Los Angeles became horribly possessive, accusing me of things I’d never done, “Why are you reading ‘The Tennessean’?” I protested, “Nashville and I are just friends!” But it ultimately blossomed into love, and now I’m here.) Los Angeles has moved on, and I hear is with some actor/surfer it met at Burning Man. I wish LA the best. I love beautifully crafted writing. Some passages by Nabokov, Wodehouse, Waugh, and Capote are so incredible I can hardly stand it. I'm a motivated guy with goals, but only one is material: someday I want to have a library in my home with high shelves bulging with all my books so at some point I can say to a guest, "I know just what you're talking about. Let me find that passage." And then I climb up a ladder to the top shelf and pull off a book and read it from the ladder while peering through my bifocals -- even though I don't actually need bifocals. (Hmmm...perhaps I've confessed too much too soon.) But there's only so much books can give a man. Life is to be relished, and if you’re bored, you’re doing it wrong. I developed a great enjoyment of boxing; it's great exercise -- with much of the calorie-burning provided by the natural inclination to avoid getting repeatedly punched in the face. I still enjoy it, though without any more sparring. (I also love the NBA and the Portland Trailblazers. You should probably know that.) Another thing: I acquired an obsession with Florence, Italy while there over the holidays a few years back. I consider it a mystical place filled with inviting sights and feelings. I've vowed to return there with the woman I love to more fully experience its rich, incredible history. I'm extremely grateful for my family and friends who have provided a wonderful bedrock for me, so I prefer a sense of gratitude, kindness, and mutual respect in those I choose to be in my circle. (Hands up who likes partying with entitled, self-pitying, tedious whiners? Anyone?) And there are many ways to show affection to loved ones: I exhibit it by doing their tax returns. (Go ahead and laugh, but peace of mind on April 15th is a special gift.) And I can definitely be more colorful than tax returns in the giving department. Kurt Vonnegut wrote "There is no way a beautiful woman can live up to what she looks like for any appreciable length of time." I love Vonnegut's novels, but I think that's crap. I know dynamic, hilarious, generous, intelligent, and joyful women...who also happen to be beautiful. Not to mention, a woman can be so beautiful in so many ways. With an incredible woman I want to enjoy the normal, savor the victories, and, most importantly, create laughter and joy even when things aren’t so fun. If you are naturally sweet but have an edge of sensuality; are able to joke and laugh but still maintain a cool undercurrent of alluring intensity; are fit and athletic about life; are passionate and compassionate -- send me a message and we can start making inside jokes.

Favorite hot spots

Florence, (I'd totally get a place in Tuscany, but George Clooney made the whole "owning an Italian villa" thing way too trendy. So I decided against it.), Los Angeles, and Iowa. (What? My family is there. I love my family.)

Providence College, Providence, RI

Favorite things

The beauty of the paintings of Raphael, the beauty of the paintings of Salvador Dali, and the beauty of the female form. The greatest film ever conceived is "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". I can publicly debate my position. Bach. Queen.

For fun

Exploring my new area (Nashville), writing, staying in shape, finishing my masters...though that's not particularly "fun".

Last read

"Magnifico" about Lorenzo de Medici; some Sherlock Holmes short stories (How does Sherlock consistently perform at such a high level?); some Nabokov short stories. Became addicted to Patrick O'Brian's incredible "Master and Commander" series.
